Ipod vs. MP3...

Thank you.

When you download from these places, can it be just a charge per song or per CD instead of a monthly subscription?

There are places online that have monthly subscriptions online like napster or rhapsody but you are basically just renting the songs. As soon as you stop paying their fees you no longer have the songs. Itunes is 99 cent a song and is yours forever. Walmart is 88 cents a song. All the others I listed are p2p file sharing.

QUite unfortunately most of these places only have 128 kbps version of the MP3, which means really-bad-sounding-music. Just convert your own CDs to MP3 at 192 kbps or higher and you'll enjoy much better sounding recordings.

I have an IPod Nano and love it. It is restrictive in the sense that you have to upload from ITunes, but you can buy songs from other sites like Wal-Mart, download them to your computer music manager, and move them to ITunes to upload to your IPod. It just takes a little more work.

Why we chose not to buy Ipod

1. You pay threw the nose for the I-pod's and it's mb's or the gb's of internal storage.

2. I read All the I-pod reviews at amazon.com a. the I-pod gets scratched really easily B. it's Apple we are a hp family making download just a little harder. C. lots of complaints about the downloading of music D.they are too small.

3. Walmart Salesman said they get lots of people all ages coming back to repurchase I-pod players because they lose them.

4. I-pod's don't have a lot of choses of where you can buy music.

5. All the extra bits are a seperate purchase, speakers, covers to stop scratches, and all the other dorky pieces[don't even try to tell me the i-pod man isn't the most dorky thing you have ever seen!!!]

6. This is my favorite thing about i-pods ,check it out! :flower:

My ds (age 15) used to have a Vibe mp3 player (we got it for him last Christmas -2004). He kept it all year and had no problems with it. It was a bit scratched, but worked fine. He really needed more storage space.

So this Christmas we bought him a iRiver 512mb mp3 player and he loves it. Has been using for a week or so now with no problems. We even had an old cassette tape connector for an old CD player we had (back in the day when cars were not equipped with CD players). Since my car has both cassette and CD players - he just pops the tape in and connects the mp3 player and can play all of his stuff in my car! I'm not sure what he will do when he starts driving next year as his car does not have a cassette player. I will let him figure it out!!

I think that is should be said that not every MP3 player works with each download site ie Napster! I got a creatice nano for Christmas and it did not work with Napster! So check out what your MP3 player works with before you start downloading! Alos does Itunes only work with Ipods?? anyone know?? :flower: :flower:

We have lots of iPods in our family (everyone from 17 year old with a Nano to a 74 year old with a shuffle!), and we all love them. They are very fun to play with and the sound is great.

Also, iTunes are great and really easy to learn (according to the 74 y.o. who can barely operate a computer, but changes her music library on her shuffle with ease). We like that they offer a variety of products and that they are the industry standard.

Another option the 5G Ipods have that mp3 players don't is video. I was surprised at how good the picture and sound quality is, but DH has been really impressed with his new toy. This will be great on teh enxt plane trip and much easier to carry than a portable DVD player.
