My daughter has been asking for an iPod touch for three years now and we are finally giving in this Christmas. Two questions we need help with. Where and what is the best price we will find on a blue 5th gen. 32 gig iPod? Also, do any retailers extended protection plans replace cracked screens? (For example after dropped) Thanks.

Don't know the prices, but buy the good case an otter box. I drop my phone daily and yes on concrete and otter box has saved it every time for about 5 years now.

I'm so excited for her. It's so much fun to give them what they want.:cool1:

Target will have it for $295 with a $25 Target GC, starting tomorrow.

Apple's online store has a refurbished one for $219 with free shipping. Refurbished items from the manufacturer have the same warranties as brand new ones.

I buy all of my extended warranties from Square Trade, when I purchase extended warranties. I don't know that I would spend $60 to get a 2-year warranty on a $219 item. I buy them for our iPhones because replacing them before the end of a contract is very pricey.

We have purchased replacement plans from Target and it definitely covers cracked screens. They send you a check for the purchase price to buy a new one. I believe Toys R Us does the same.

I think that Apple also has some sort of warranty that would fix or replace the cracked screen but it doesn't last as long.

I plan on buying 2 refurbished from Apple. I don't think you will find a lower price and their refurbs are like brand new with a 1 year warranty.

We have 5 ipod touches, all bought refurbished from Apple, in Otterboxes.

I got my dses refurbed ipod touches last year (and nanos the year before that) and never had any problems with them. The only reason I am getting new ones is because they want the current generation so they can update to IOS 7 for certain apps they have. As long as the price is right I plan on getting all my Apple products refurbed directly from them :thumbsup2

How long ago did Target protection plan replace your screen? I ask because when I asked my local Target employee and called the 1-866 number for protection plans; they said they would absolutely NOT cover cracked screens, only electrical problems. They acted as if I was being ridiculous to expect that to be covered :(

Not sure what to do yet? Afraid, since I have seen so many of my nieces, nephews, and students crack electronic screens almost immediately.

My Target said they don't cover cracked screens when I took mine in. You might want to check on this before you buy a plan through them.

I am 100% sure my DD's ipod 4 was replaced under warranty with a cracked screen through Target. We bought the warranty cards just before Christmas 2011. About 2 months ago the screen was severely cracked. It was still working, just cracked We had to send it away, not bring it into the store and then they sent us a check for the original purchase price. She then bought an ipod touch 5 with the money.

The cost is based on the cost of the item. For a new ipod touch 5 it would be $29 for a 3-year replacement plan.

I do see online a lot of reviews saying cracked screens aren't covered but they replaced ours. Maybe it has changed?

I just read through all the fine print on our plan coverage (since we just bought the plan again for the ipod 5.) At first it seemed cracked screens were not covered. But it also said "Your plan covers failures due to normal wear and tear." I think they are considering the ipod touch a "portable computing device" which makes it eligible for enhanced coverage for "unintentional or accidental damage from handling as the result of normal use...."

Toys R Us also covers damage. We haven't used them for ipods but we have gotten our Wii repaired and a DS replaced through them. The DS had been dropped too many times and the hinges were broken.
