Thinking about doing the half marathon in 2010.

Are there safety restrictions against using mp3 players when running?

It's so hard for me to run/workout without my music!

Do you think the iPod touch would be too big, or should I just use my shuffle?

I don't know about the Disney policy but I have done a number of races and every time they make an announcement that you will be DQ if you wear any headphones (safety reasons). During those same races I see a large number of people wearing them anyway and I have never heard of someone getting penalized. I think that they make the guidelines to cover their liability. I have not used the headphones myself during competition.

I have both a Touch and a shuffle, I have shorted out the shuffle a number of times and had to get a new one b/c I sweat a lot (gross) so I won't use the touch for that reason. I have seen nice arm bands for the touch though.

LOL! I too have shorted out my shuffle!!!

I just don't want to get DQ for something as dumb as listening to music!

I do have a nice armband for the touch!

So there really isn't an official rule book stating that electronics are not allowed?

Since I walk alone during the races- most of the time. I wear my shuffle to workout in and clip it on the inside of my shirt and hide the wire in that too. It does day your not suppose to wear them but a lot of people do.

I have either shut it off or taken the headphones out when we get to certain places in the race, a DJ, a band, in the MK at water stops etc. The music gets me moving and I don 't think I would have done as well without it.

I have always worn my shuffle during the race. I also take my "ears" out when there is some sort of entertainment, through the parks and if I strike up a conversation with someone on the course...

With 20,000-ish people, no one will be there to police headphones...Having said that, if you are in the elite group and looking for a win/award, you will probably want to leave your buds at home...

Technically, Disney says earphones aer discouraged. I have never heard of them doing anythign about it, though. Just make sure taht you keep teh music soft enough that you can be aware of your surroundings. I've heard of people not eharign emergency personnel on the course adn causing dangerous situations. As long as the music's not too loud. you will be fine!

Wasn't it a race in Chicago where the race director disqualified EVERYONE he could find wearing headphones (By going through the photos and videos)? Kind of extreme!

Omgosh! That's horrible!!!!

Another question...you run on the highways?? What about traffic? Is everything controlled?

They have all of the roads marked with orange cones as well as lots of people working to make everything go smoothly.
