Please recommend an IPOD touch for a 10 year old? Will the 16 GB be enough and where is the best price to purchase? Thanks - birthday purchase.

If they are going to download movies for the car, etc. I would go with the 32. My kids have all their music and can choose a couple of movies with theirs. They'd actually like more, but 32 works. We regularly have 7 hour car trips to visit family.

My 10 year old is currently saving for one. She will be buying 32gb as we've found that anything smaller is too small. Check out the Apple website for reburished items. I think the current price for a 32gb current generation is $219.

The apps keep getting bigger, the space iOS takes keeps getting bigger, .... I would go with 32gig. I would also recommend checking out Apple's refurb section.

Apple website refurb! :thumbsup2

Keep in mind that the 16 GB latest generation does not have a real camera. It has what they call a "facetime camera" meaning, it only takes selfies and there is no camera on the other side of the ipod. As the camera is very important to my 10 year old and he wanted the 5th generation model, he had to save up to pay the extra for a 32 GB. A refurb from the Apple site saved him money and has been perfect.

When looking for the best place to purchase I always look at the extended warranty that is available....what it covers, how long it lasts and how much it is? I have never even looked at Apple site? We ended up buying at Walmart because their warranty was very reasonable price and covered dropping and shattering screen, dropping in the water, defects etc....My sister has had to return computers and Ipods because she has young kids and things get broke....come to think of it her husband spilled a can of soda on one computer and she has never had a problem with returning thru Walmart extended plan.

ITA Apple Refurb. We got our kids their iPods two years ago and are totally pleased with them. You could never tell that they weren't "new". And for sure, go for the 32!

We got my son a used iphone 3G, 32 Gig. The size is good. He does often say he wants an iPod Touch 5 instead. I got him the iPhone in the off-chance we wanted to pop a SIM card in to contact him.

My boys both have a 32gb 5th generation ipod. They got them when they were 9 and 11. My ipod (and iphone) are both 16 gb, which is plenty for me, but they have more junk on theirs.

My daughter wanted an iPod touch but the price was more than I was willing to spend. I was talking to a coworker who's husband was upgrading his iphone 4 to an iphone 5. I told her that I would give him. 100.00 for it and he said sure. He even threw in the otterbox he had it in. So it will come up that it is not activated and she hits ok and that is the only problem. The iphone. 4 had a better camera than the iPod touch. She's able to get online, use face time, check email, take photos and play any apple apps. I know that verizon sells refurbished iphone. 4 for their prepaid no contract service for 99.00. I wonder if you could buy one and just not activate it.

We have several disney movies and tv shows and have run out if space on the 16 gb ipad and iphone. I bought a wifi flash drive from sandisk. I download the app and dragged the movies and tv show onto the flash drive. The flas drive has wifi so I hook the ipad up to the flas drives wifi connection and can watch all my movies. It works in the car and everywhere for about 4 hours. I downloaded the app onto my daughters iphone and she too can watch any movie on it too. It has worked great for us. So if you run out of memory you could add more with this. I bought it through bestbuy online.

Keep in mind that neither of these will be updated to iOS 8. It may not seem a big deal now but the more powerful the hardware and software gets the more powerful the apps get and will eventually be useless on older generations. So while a good deal at the moment it could actually shorten the usefulness and hasten the need for an upgrade much sooner.

As to the no contract phone I would think you'd be required to activate it and pay at least a minimum plan to start.

I have not seen anyone mention the extended service plans? Am I the only one that thinks these are valuable? Does the Apple refurbished one offer a great service plan at a reasonable price? I have never looked at that site so I do not know. I do know that we bought my granddaughter the newest Kindle and I dropped it on the floor and the screen shattered and it was replaced. My son dropped his Ipod and shattered the screen and we had no extended coverage so after 2 months it was trash! He also dropped one in the lake, but that had a service plan so was replaced. My sister, like I said had a laptop that my BIL spilled his soda on and that was replaced. After lots of comparing.....the plan at Walmart especially for the price couldnt be beat.
