Both DD and DS would like one of these for Christmas. Mostly for music and games. Am I right in thinking you can download/buy "apps" from itunes and run them on this? I was orignally going to get them 8GB, but now I am thinking that they would need a 32 to store/run these programs. Is that correct?

Thanks for your input!

I have an 8gb and I have plenty of storage on my ipod touch. I guess it all depends on how many apps they are going to download.
Yes you can get both the apps and music from Itunes.

I have a 16G iTouch, and I have ALL my songs, a bunch of photos, connection to my email (which takes up space), plus 4 pages of apps, and I still have more room on my iTouch.

I guess it'd depend on if they also download movies, etc. on it.

I have owned an 8gig since last Christmas. The apps actually take up a small percentage of my total space. Currently I have two movies and a handful of TV shows. I also keep photos, and podcasts, and a moderate amount of music onboard. If you plan to keep on more than a moderate amount of video, then - yes - you'd want to look at a higher capacity.

But as far as apps go, I have at least 20 to 30 games, in addition to other apps. And you can always pick and choose which apps you want to synch to the Touch and which you just want to leave sitting in iTunes. Another advantage is that a game can be downloaded once and synched to multiple ipods. DS7 has a Nintendo DS and enjoys it. But he also likes playing games on my Touch when we're just sitting around in the evenings. Plus, if you have wireless in your home, the DS is a connection to the Internet, and Internet-capable apps.

I've seen the BF Walmart deal with a $200 ipod, which includes a $50 iTunes gift card. At .99 to 1.99 for many games, talk about a great way to get into a multi-purpose gaming platform. Oh, DS7 also enjoys watching movies on the Touch, and with many DVDs you're now getting a 'digital download' which can be transferred to as many of the family ipods as you like.

As long as your kids are responsible with this expensive piece of tech gear, it can be a LOT of fun. :thumbsup2

I'm having this same issue. I have an 8 and it's not big enough. DD has a 16, and she is running out of room. I find that I have issues when I try to put several movies on. DH decided last night that we are getting the 32.

Wow...you guys are fast! Thanks for all of your help. Anyone find a great deal on the 16-32GBs? What size touch was the deal at WalMart? ($200) I'm guessing that was the 8GB? 16GB (new generation) seem hard to find, so I'm guessing we will go for the 8 or 32GB...

16 gig has been discontinued

Target, Amazon and BB have the 32 gig right now for around $280

the 8 gig 3rd generation has no upgrades over the 2nd generation

only the 32 and the 64 3rd gen was upgraded

Yes, the Walmart deal is for the 8gb. The 16gb did not return in the new generation but can be found on apple's website as refurbished or on amazon.com. The "new" generation touch(es?) come in 8gb, 32gb, and 64gb.
Target will have the 32gb for $295 (regularly $299) on Black Friday with a FREE $30 Target gift card.

I have an 8gb with 7 pages of apps,2 seasons of a tv show, 3 movies, a ton of songs and 27 photos and still have room.
