I am an adult whose husband gave her an itouch last year for christmas. I love it. I never had any ipod or mp3 player so the music part is new to me. The real difference is the internet browsing and related applications. Mine lives on a clock/speaker dock next to my bed. I check the baseball scores at night, look at the weather when i get up in the morning, and sometimes just surf the DIS while lying in bed. I have downloaded some free games and purchased a few from the itune stores. I think the e-reader is fabulous. It is smaller than a kindle but i think the size is fine for reading. It auto bookmarks where you are. There are a ton of free books and the current ones are much cheaper than in a book store. I still like to read "real books" sometimes but having the e-books is great for traveling. I can go through 5 or 6 books on vacation. Saves alot in packing.

I have an iTouch and I LOVE it! I haven't used the book reader feature, though. How does that work? Where do you get the books and how much do they cost? Intriguing...

I love it for the apps and being able to put videos on it. I hand the iTouch to my son when he's getting antsy at the grocery store, etc and he can watch a show -- fantastic!

I also like that it has a speaker, so I don't HAVE to use headphones to listen to it.

Touch will get you internet access, but at a cost of hard drive space. Ipod has much more space for music, movies, and podcasts, but no wi-fi.

You have to decide which feature is most important to you. If your cell phone gets you internet access, then go with the Ipod. If not, go for the Touch with wi-fi. :thumbsup2

I LOVE my touch!!!!

Would like to know more bout the book stuff - where re they free to download?

Thanks!

Can you store movies to watch without wifi or podcasts, etc ?

How much are the apps? do you pay once or monthly?

Sounds better and better....

Thnaks for the help everyone!:yay:

The i-touch is pretty much the i-phone without the phone! I got one for my husband last year for his birthday and he loves it!!

Can someone explain how the internet works with the I-Touch? Do you have to have wi-fi in your house to connect?

You can buy books for your iTouch from Amazon. I think the first thing i did was go to the itunes store download the free app for amazon books. From the app there is an option to buy books which takes you to amazon. I am pretty sure if I go to amazon through the browser and then go to the kindle section it will work that way as well. You need an amazon account and/or credit card. It recognized both my iTouch and my husbands iTouch on the same amazon account so whatever we buy will automatically download to both of us. There are a ton of free books on amazon. Many of the classics. I am currently re-reading little woman. The books to purchase vary from a few dollars to $9.99 or so for new bestsellers out in hardback. I usually sort by the most recently downloaded choice. This usually shows you new books that are free, as these are what people are downloading. Sometimes a publisher will make book one in a series free on the hopes that if you like it, you will like all of them. You can also sort by price and this will bring free books to the top and it will take you a while to page through the many choices. Another option is that you can sort on NY times bestsellers.

You need wifi to connect. You an connect to any wifi that is open or for which you have the network key. This can be at home or starbucks, etc. the wifi is not like a phone in that you can not get to the internet from everywhere.

love, LoVe, LOVE my touch...best money i have spent....I have tons of apps, but one of my favourite is stanza (same idea as e-reader)...read lots on my ipod because it is always with me (in waiting rooms, on trips, etc)...Love that i can access the internet...wake up in the morning, grab it while laying in bed, and check out facebook before i ever get up....:lmao:

I had an ipod video before, and i highly recommend the touch over it, especially if you would like the option to do far more than just listen to music...if something happened to my touch, i would have to replace it right away...

The iPod Touch is very versatile. As I am typing this, I am listening to Pandora radio through our whole house stereo system. We dropped our house subscription to Sirius XM radio when we discovered Pandora. The iPod Touch was free when we bought a MacBook last month with the student discount. My DH and I already have iPhones, so didn't need the Touch as a portable device. -- Suzanne

If I get a itouch, then download books--- do i need the internet access to read the books once they are downloaded----

Thank you so much for those hints!! Don't know why I didn't think of that.. :headache: Been trying to find the free books ever since they did that free romance book special a few months ago.. love reading books on my Touch, but not gonna pay major bucks to do so (I go through a book about every 2-3 days).

My DD has an iTouch and she loves it. I have the iphone (basically the same thing but has a phone) and I use ereader and stanza all the time!! I don't buy books anymore. I like to read in bed and reading on the phone makes that so much easier at night and I don't bother DH with having a light on or the flipping of pages. These two apps keep you from being locked in to only buying books from sites like Amazon, and Stanza handles many file types. Highly recommend both apps!!

dont forget- there r progrms out there so you can rip your own movies from your computer for your touch!

where else r there books for free for the ipod? especilly childrens books?

How does the internet work in places like WDW? I assume there is no WiFi spots there so it wouldn't work. I would love to know how i can transfer some of our movies to one. It would be better for the kids on the plane then carrying portable DVD

WDW-no internet usually unless you rent one of those cables at the hotel, and you have to plug that into your computer.

I have used both apex (paid program) and videora (free program) on my computers to "rip" movies for my ipod. its GREat!!!! Videora seems to take longer to convert the movie, but when its done, it puts it right into your itunes library which i just LOVE!!!! You also need to make sure you have the room on your computer for the space that the movies take up. I actually store mine on an external drive. i have a 1st generation 16G touch (wish it had a speaker) and right now I have 13 full length movies, 4 30 minute TV shows, and a zillion songs n game apps - it really holds alot!! I would go for the biggest memory you can afford if you plan to store alot on it -I also have about 300 pictures on it too!!

There are a lot of free apps out there for the kids too! My neices n nephew just love playing on my ipod!!!:)
