Ipod touch question

ok so my birthday is coming up and i asked for a ipod touch. But my mom doesn't understand how you can get on the internet and check e-mail and stuff. So i need to know how also so.

How do you check you e-mail. does it come on it?

there is an icon on the new version itouches but you will need wi-fi in order to get on the internet or to get on the email

With the iTouch you need a Wi-Fi connection to get on the internet and check your email. So you can do this at home (if you have Wi-Fi), most Panera/Starbucks/other places that say they have Wi-Fi, or you could 'steal' it from other places (the Apple store or other stores/homes). The last thing is kinda sketch though...

There is most likely (I don't have an iTouch I have an iPhone) an icon that says Safari. Safari gets you to the internet to check your mail or do mostly anything else on the web like normal. There may be an icon that says Mail. This will allow you to get your email right away when you are on Wi-Fi network without going on Safari.

Yeah there's an icon for mail and safari on it. You need to be in a Wi-Fi zone (starbucks...apple store etc) to get on the network.
Some networks like your neighbors if they had Wi-Fi will be password protected and you shouldn't 'steal' your neighbors internet anyways.
But if you have wi-fi in your house you can connect and go on the internet from any room in your house

ok, so if i have that thing that i can "steal" internet off of my home computer for my laptop, i will be able to get internet on the ipod touch?

All you need is Wi-Fi in your home. If you have wireless internet, you'll be able to use your iTouch to get internet.
