iPod Touch/iPhone Apps for DVC/Disney?

My DH won an iPod touch through a charity raffle and we've been fiddling with it over the weekend.

I thought I remembered seeing a thread before about apps for DVC and/or Disney but it was some time ago. Anyone have any recommendations?

Search for Disney and you'll find a lot of them.

There are 3 or 4 different DVC point calculators. There are apps with restaurant menus, theme park maps, approximate ride wait times. The DIS has its own app with various functions.

Download the free ones and give them a spin. Many have small fees attached ($1-2) so read the reviews and consider what other users say before buying.

Tap the App Store icon. Tap the search icon. Type in "Disney World." A plethora of Apps, free and otherwise will appear. So far I've only downloaded the freebies, except for Toy Story Mania. We used the free WDW wait times app while in the parks this Christmas. It was consistently on the mark. Also downloaded the free Disney World Park Hours which is another great app. Have not downloaded any DVC apps yet. Holding out to see if Caskbill comes up with an iPhone/iPod touch version. As far as "pay" DVC apps we are considering D Point which has been highly rated. Can't actually comment on that one from hands on experience. Toy Story Mania = addicting.

Here are my top 2 apps for the iPhone related to Disney World:

1) Lines - this app is free from the iTunes store, but to get it's functionality, you'll need a touringplans.com subscription. I honestly can't say enough positive things about this app, and the subscription is more then worth the annual fee. They show you estimated real wait times (actual, not just posted waits), when they expect fast passes to run out, crowd level estimates for the future, etc. And they have a mountain of data behind their estimates, so they are very reliable. 2) D Point - this is my favorite DVC app, as I think it's the easiest to use and has the most practical way it displays the data and options. It's a point calculator that I use to plan my trips and quickly/easily compare point costs for different resorts, room types, dates, etc.

I personally like the DVC Planner app for the iPhone and iPod touch. It allows me to save and email my vacation data, including required points for a stay.

I did a search by "DISboards" and nothing came up through the app store. Any idea how to find this app, or is it just accessing the website from the ipod?

Tis DIS app is called e-ticket and is $5, it's a good app. Look over on the Theme parks and attractions, there were some app threads over there.

That's the name of their game--reducing wait times. I can't say enough good things about them, so give the premium subscription and Lines a whirl!

If anyone is looking for a Disneyland app, MouseWait is fantastic. I've gotten great tips on there such as celebrity sightings (and a free Jonas Brothers concert), hours and events, restaurant menus, hidden mickey checklists, weather, real-time closure texts (such as Matterhorn is down), and excellent wait time stats. It also has a real time community forum.

For WDW apps I like TWiz for transportation routes, and time estimates. It's helped me several times when going from resort to resort to find the best, fastest route.

It is similar but not identical. In some ways it is more challenging. When your at the entrance to the ride in WDW or DL you can download TS wallpapers.

I, too, love Lines, but I don't think it will work with an iPod Touch. You have to have internet or cellular connection to be able to access the up to date information.

Of course, I still think touringplans.com is a good planning tool to figure out which parks to go to and what touring plan to adhere to.

I am considering an Ipod Touch. I really want the apps (like wait-times, etc). But it is my understanding that it wont work in the parks. Is there a way to get it to work while at the parks? I have wifi in my home, but its outside of that that I question. If not, no worries, I still like some of the apps, games, etc.

BTW... I do not own an Iphone, but I do want the Ipod Touch.

Short of them providing wifi in the parks (which I'm pretty sure they don't yet) there's no way to access info that requires internet access. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's the way it is.

The main differences between the iPhone and iPod Touch are that the iPhone pretty much has Internet access all the time. The iPhone also has GPS. The iTouch will only have Internet access when you have access to a wi-fi access point (like at your house if you have your own wireless router) and it does not have GPS.

The wait times app I have on my iPhone requires an Internet connection in order to function. Disney doesn't have wi-fi in the parks so it wouldn't work on an iPod Touch.

The website TouringPlans.com has its own wait times app called "Lines." I haven't used it myself but you could do some research and see if it works with the iPod Touch.

Other Disney apps should work just fine on the iTouch. There is an app which has menus for all of the Disney restaurants. That data is all stored on the iTouch when you install the app so it would work in the parks without an internet connection. There are apps with maps of the theme parks and apps with park hours. Those should work fine.

Just understand that the iTouch would give you no Internet access in the parks and has no GPS functionality.

It sounds like the touch is a good choice, just not for some of the certain apps that required the internet (got it ). But the others you mentioned sound pretty cool like the dining or the touring plans wait times.
