I am deeply considering getting an iPod touch. My only problem is the internet. I do not want it on my iPod (for fear of charges of using the internet) nor do I believe I will use it. I was wondering if I could have that app removed or somehow blocked so that it is inaccessible. Thanks!! :goodvibes

I'm confused. Why would you be charged for using the internet? :confused3

My DS has a Touch and I think there is a way to disable the internet access. I don't know how to do it, though.

We don't get charged either.

We use it at home via the Wifi. I love it if we need to check something really quick vs turning on the lap top or desk top & my dhs blackberry is a much smaller screen.

I can quickly check my email too.

I am sure you can get rid of that app when in your itunes account.

I have an iPod Touch, and you will not be charged to use the internet. The internet only works if there is a Wi-Fi connection available. There are many places that offer free Wi-Fi connections. They will not charge you to use the internet, but may require you to sign up to get a user name and password to comply with their rules.

Also, Apple does not offer internet service for the iPod Touch. At least that I know of.

If you don't want to use the internet on the iPod Touch, you can simply turn off the Wi-Fi, and you won't be able to use the internet until you turn it back on. To turn off the Wi-Fi, simply do the following:

Go to: Settings, Wi-Fi, Off/On.

Exactly.

It is nice to have though--you can be at your local library, a place to eat (like Panera, Arby's, etc. many places have wi-fi) and hook up to the internet. But if you do not want it, just do as the above quoted post says.

I suppose if you don't want him being able to access ANY internet or any apps that use wifi like email, youtube......, you can go into settings & turn off wifi......but then what's the point of getting an ITouch? :confused3

I got the iTouch BECAUSE there were no fees to use the internet.

There is no such thing as free Internet. Someone has to pay. It may be free to you, or seem that way. Whomever is providing the free Wi-Fi service to you has to pay. But in the long run, they will find some way to get you to pay. Most common way, raise prices to help offset the costs.

Plus many people get iPods for different reasons. I personally didn't get mine just for the Internet. DW got me mine because I commute by train an hour and a half each day (each way) to work, by train. I use it to listen to music and watch movies while on the train. Helps make the commute time pass by. Don't get me wrong, I like having the Internet available; just not the main reason I wanted one. It's great for watching movies on.:thumbsup2

I got a iPod Touch as a part of a later Christmas bonus for my job. I'm using it more for games, reference apps and for music apps like Pandora, Snowtape and I have downloaded a few ebooks through the Kindle app. I do like using the Internet when I have to check something really quick or when I'm watching TV or doing something and I'm just reading though the news and stuff.
