Just curious.

DH says several folks at work have the 8gb and say they can't even fill that. He is trying to talk me into an 8gb, but I wonder if that will be enough.

I would assume that most movies I would download would be watched and taken off as I don't watch things more than once.

How much music do you have that you want to put on it? We always go big because we have 60GB of music in our iTunes library, plus hundreds of apps. We don't actually have many movies at all on our iPhones & iPods but just all the other stuff takes up a lot.

I would get the bigger one.

A lot will depend if you plan on putting music and photos on it, and if so, how much you put. Applications also use up memory. So if your plan is to only watch a movie once and then remove it, an 8GB would probably be ok. If you have a lot of music, I would go with something a little higher.

I guess it depends on how much music/apps/photos, etc. you will have on it. I had the 32gb 1st generation and also got the 32gb 4th generation. My preference would be to buy the most memory you can afford. I think the difference between the 8gb and 32gb is about $70 - not a huge amount of
money for about 4x the storage space.

I always go for more memory. The price difference between one size memory and next is not that huge, and you don't want to regret not having enough later. I have an itouch, and I bought the 64 gig. With the apps, videos and music I have on there at this point (I dont' have any movies) I'm using over 16 gig. I still have more CDs that I haven't ripped yet. So for me, the answer is GO BIG.

I have an 8GB, 4th gen. It's actually 6.5GB available to you after the OS and other necessities.

Currently I have 40 apps, 50 photos, 2 (home) videos and 17 songs.

And 5.1 GB still available.

If that helps to give you an idea...

thanks all. I have no idea how to find out how much memory of itunes I have to download, but it is probably about 1,000 songs?

I plan to download audiobooks and use it for apps, wif-fi, that sort of thing.

I may go ahead and get the 32. I was planning on 32 and then DH tried to talk me into 8.

No idea why since we are planning to get an imac and I mentioned that perhaps a 21 inch would be enough and he went on and on about how he really wants the 27".

HA!

I have 12,000 "items" in my iTunes library and they take up almost 58GB. So just by straight math, you have about 5 GB of music I would say. That doesn't mean you need it all on the device all the time though.

Most of the songs I have from iTunes are 6-8 MB each.

I have a 32GB 4th generation ipod touch. I put all of our music into itunes and there is over 40GB in the library. I also have all my digital copies of video in there as well. Nearly 40GB of movies. So, not everything fits.

Most movies require about 1GB of space. If you want to be able to bring several movies with you on a vacation plus some music, then you might want more than 8GB of memory. If you just want it to keep the kids entertained on short card rides and while waiting at the doctor's office, then save some cash and just get the 8GB. But plan on doing a lot of manipulations before syncing whenever you want to change its content.

My first ipod-a 2G, was 8 gb...it was almost full, i always had to delete stuff to get new stuff...my new ipod-4G-is a 32...now i would never go back to the smaller size, much nicer to have tons of room to work with :thumbsup2

I currently have an 8gb ipod touch. I have pretty much the whole thing free. Heck, I've deleted things and still don't have enough room to add more. I will be getting a bigger one.

Before I got my iphone I had a touch.. I had the 8g... it was FINE for me... tons of music and APPS.. and still had space.
My kids both have touches now and 8G is way to small for them.. The movies take A HUGE amount of space on them. they are 2 and 5 so they both have movies on theirs.

My daughter has to keep deleteing apps from her 8gb- there is just not enough room on it- I have the 32 gb and its about 1/2 full at this point!

If you are going to watch movies, you really need a 32gb. I only have 1800 songs and a few dozen apps and I'm starting to run out of room. More memory is usually the smartest way to go.

i currently have the 64g and love it...i have 13.1g of audio(2,036 songs), 11.4g photos(7,437 pictures), 3g apps(102), video-.14g & other-.48g...i have 31.2g of free space yet...if i were you i would go big!!!

As DH says, "We've never once said, 'Man, I wish I hadn't of spent that extra money to get more _____ when it comes to electronics.' Meanwhile, how many times have we said, 'I wish I would have spent the extra money to get _____.'"

Definitely the 32 or above. My dd's are only 8 and 11 and both have close to 30 on theirs.

It really depends on how often your music taste changes, and how varied your music selection is. If you have a few favorite artists, and aren't much for new music, then the 8 should be fine. But if you keep adding the latest and greatest to your favorites, then you will probably want the 32. My DW has a 4gb Nano, and usually fills it up, but she leaves it for a few months before redoing the whole thing. My iPods have a lot more variety on them as my tastes are wide ranging, so I have to manage my space more carefully.

If you plan on using wifii go for 32G. DH has 8G and it is SLOW compared to mine and he has no movies and not a ton of songs on it, and just 3 pages if apps.
