Hello everyone,

My DD has asked for a pink ipod mini for Christmas. Does anyone have this and are they worth all the money they cost? Also, what accessories does she need with it? Thanks everyone!!!

It depends. If she is going to download a lot of music, I would suggest getting her the Dell DJ with Napster instead. $15.00 a month for unlimited DLs.

If she is not going to download all that much, get her the iPod. As for accessories, a cover, perferably one with a screen guard, because that screen scratches like nothing. Also get her a car charger, and new headphones, because those earbuds they give you cause hearing loss faster than the normal headphones.

How would downloading a lot of music make any difference in getting an iPod or not?

Because if you don't download $15.00 worth of songs a month, then why use napster, and pay more money, for stuff you arn't buying.

With iTunes, you pay by the song. (.99 cents) If you download an average of less than $15.00 a month, it would be more economical for you to buy the iPod.

I have a pink Ipod and I love it. Technically you don't need to buy anything extra, it comes with all the basic things you need. But you could get a car charger and case if you like. And yes it costs 99 cents to buy the songs from iTunes, but you can also import cd's on to it. I love my ipod and I think it was worth every penny.

I don't think you understand how an iPod works. An iPod works exactly the same as any other mp3 player. You don't have to use music from the iTunes store. I have over 2,300 songs on my iPod and have only gotten like 10 songs from iTunes. The rest of my songs came from a few cd's I had and other websites. I have also gotten songs from peer-to-peer programs and torrent programs.

I have an iPod, and I know how it works. I don't think you understand what I'm saying.

If your going to be downloading a ton, then get a diffrent mp3 player. It would be less expensive over the long run. If not, if you are going to be importing a lot of songs and buying a few of them here and there, then go ahead and get the iPod.

What? You still don't make sense, how about this. You can also use other music download places other then iTunes for iPods.

Yes, but iTunes just makes it so much easier.

That doesn't matter though, you're saying that if you want to download a ton of songs to not get an iPod because of the cost. Well you're just wrong there, I've spent 10 bucks probably using iTunes. Then for about 2,200 songs I've spent $0 because of the free downloading programs. The rest were from cd's. It's not that difficult to drag and drop songs into iTunes from your computer. Then place those songs into your iPod. It isn't that difficult at all, and won't cost you anymore money then using a different mp3 player.

I wasn't talking about importing music from cds. I'm saying if your going to download using iTunes, and your going to download a lot, then get something else, because it won't be worth the cost.

Yeah I know you can put music on there in diffrent ways other than downloading it from itunes, so your point there is useless.

Read what I put, I downloaded about 2,200 songs and put the on my iPod. I did not import 2,200 songs from cd's. I downloaded them, not from iTunes but from different places. So if you want to download a lot of stuff, then go ahead and get an iPod or any other mp3 player for that matter. And download music from wherever you want. If you don't want to pay $.99 a song then don't use iTunes Music Store, just because you have an iPod doesn't mean you have to use the Music Store. Seriously you're acting like iTunes Music Store is the only place to download songs for your iPod, and you're probably confusing people.

Yes, I read that, and I acknowledged it. Like I said, I know you can download from other places, but iTunes is just so much easier than any other DLding program. BTW I just edited my previous post to make it sound more like what I meanted.

Not to mention if your downloading stuff for free your breaking the law, even with Kazza. Not to mention Kazza sucks.:confused3

You guys do know that apple has stopped making the Ipod mini?? they replaced it with the Nano.

Its hard to find them right now where i live. In the coming months you wont see them on store shelves...only online...and later not even there

pity...i like the mini!

I don't use Kazaa I use torrent sites, I know it's illegal and I take my chances. I don't really care, I just don't get what you're talking about at all. You're basically saying if you want to get a lot of music don't get an iPod. That doesn't make any sense at all. Let's use Napster for example then, I have an iPod and I have another mp3 player. I download a lot of music and put the same amount onto my iPod and my other mp3 player. Wait a second, it cost me the exact same amount of money for the songs to be placed on either mp3 player. That's all I'm trying to say, getting an iPod will make no difference in how much money you pay for songs. If you don't want to pay the $.99 then don't use iTunes go find another downloading place for your music. How hard is it for you to understand? Who cares if "iTunes is just so easy" it doesn't matter, if you want cheaper music then get it from somewhere else. Once again it doesn't matter what type of mp3 player you have.

get the soft ear bud ear phones - they are a lot more comfortable especially for smaller sized ears. Also, there is a neophrene case you can get that has a belt clip and a arm strap that is very useful for working out and protects the screen. Or just get a screen protector. And you can use napster or any music source to download, as well as itunes, and can copy cds over.

I bought a Nano and I love it! If you do get her one, invest in some better earphones. The ear buds that come with it are a pain. I bought some full headphones and they are more comfortable, stay on my ears and have fantastic sound. You don't need expensive ones...mine were $15.00. Also, if she is going to use it to exercise, get her the armband. I would also get the cover for the iPod, as the casing does scratch.

Yes, iTunes songs are .99. Yes, you can use songs from other sites as long as they are not protected. We downloaded free music before they shut down all of the sites. When we loaded iTunes, our music that we had already downloaded changed over to iTunes and I have loaded them onto my iPod.

Thanks for all the replys and suggestions everyone. I have heard that the earbuds are not the best, so I will get her a set of headphones.

I didn't know about the Nano, is it supposed to be better than the mini?

There are some pros to the Nano. First of all it is smaller than the mini, and it has a color screen, along with the classic mirrored back. It also is flash based, so there is no chance of hard drive failure, or skipping if you're running with it. If you do get the Nano I would highly reccomend getting a protective case for it, because they tend to scratch easily. Also if you decide to get the 4gb Nano, I would look into getting the new 30gb iPod with video support for only $50 more. :wave2:

My sister is getting a pink Zen Nano Plus for Christmas.
You can keep 18 hours of music on it.
You can down load music from your PC,web-sites - or from your own CD player(at no cost).

at Walmart for $129
