iPod question

I have an 8 year old asking for an iPod. I'm in the dark on these...I've never owned one and have no idea which one to buy. There seems to be a wide range of options at a wide range of prices!

She specifically said she wanted to "play games and music" on it. What is the most reasonably priced one I can get...while not having to buy another one in the next year or two?

Although...at her age...I suppose it will get broken or lost before she outgrows it, so let's go back to that "reasonable price" suggestion.

Thoughts please?

iPod Touch refurbished- with a good hardshell case and a screen protector! And honestly, most electronic stuff needs to be replaced in 2 years. Anything beyond that is a miracle in my book!

Sounds like she's asking for an iPod Touch, which will run you about $200.00 for the smallest memory (8GB). They are fairly fragile. Personally, I would not spend that kind of money for something like this for an 8 year old because of the risk of breaking it or losing it, and it also can access the internet via wifi. That's just me, though.

You can get a refurbished touch direct from apple for $149. Considering the price for DS or a PSP that is not an unreasonable amount to spend on an 8 year old. However, isn't there always , the touch is fragile because the entire screen is a glass touch screen so its easily broken, even with a case on it. It wold really depend on the 8 year old and if they are responsible with that kind of stuff or not for me to buy one for them. I got my dses (7 and 10) previous generation (I think 5th) nanos because I don't trust them with a touch, they can watch videos, and take video but they can't get the Apps like on a touch.
