DD got an Ipod nano for Christmas....she is frustrated because she is having trouble loading her cds on it.
Is it necessary to subscribe to itunes to load her cds onto the player?
(she had a cheap mp3 player for years & had no problems w/ it)....
Now she wants to return the ipod to Target ...anyone know their return policy on said item?

TIA

I'm curious why she doesn't have iTunes?

To put a CD onto an iPod you need to import that CD to Itunes, it is very easy. Once the songs are in iTunes, you plug in your iPod and it udates automatically, unless you set it for manual. Its very easy, my dd does hers all the time :thumbsup2

You have to have iTunes, but you don't have to "subscribe." It's free - just download it. If you want to put songs in there that aren't on CDs - songs from the iTunes store - you have to pay for those. But you pay for the songs themselves - again, no subscription.

You don't have to subscribe or buy songs from the iTunes store. Many people use the iTunes software as a music library. Your daughter will have to set up an account but she won't have to buy music.

Itunes is really fantastic. I've been using it on my PC for about, wow, 8 years now and I love love love it. It's free, it's ridiculously simple, and it's great as a music-playing program too. I love that you can edit the beginning and end of songs, so you can exclude intros and...um... outros? :rotfl2:

Okay, how do you do it if you want to update manually?
We have about 3 different Ipods set up on my Itunes. I don't want stuff that my 18 yo SDD has downloaded on my 8 yo DD's ipod and vice versa. Not sure the 18 yo wants to listen to Miley.
So I have it set to sync to a playlist and then sync prior to exiting.
Once I've got the CD's downloaded I can't move them into a playlist.

Any help??
Thanks.

Its actually an ipod setting. When you plug in your ipod, and your IPOD is showing up in itunes. click on the music tab. There will be check box that says SYNC Music. Then the option of all music, or a playlist. Just uncheck that top Sync Music box.

The next one I am not sure about, but I have found that you need to move music from a cd to the library, and then to your ipod or playlist. A playlist is really just the same as shortcut to something in your library. Its really not a copy of the song. Just a pointer to where it really lives.

We have 3 iPods on iTunes as well. All of the music from CD's and iTunes store is in the Library. Each of use has a playlist, Mom's Playlist- Dad's Playlist- etc. We drag and drop the songs we want from the library into our individual playlist. Then we have our settings to only update with songs from the particular playlist we want. Hope that helps.

Once you download the CD, go into the music library, then drag and drop into your playlist. It won't work if you try to drag from the recently added list, it has to come from the library.

Thanks everyone. I will try again!! :thumbsup2
