iPod camera connector

HI, I have an older G3 iPod , but thought you couldn't transfer photos off and ipod, just the other way around? Am I wrong ( say yes!)
I use a mac, do you use a particular software program to sync back to iPhoto?
Thanks, Nancy

Sorry but I haven't tried it yet. I am assuming you can just because it says transfer to computer to view photos. This iPod stuff is all new to me. My iPod is set up for Windows- I don't know if it can be used with Mac without me doing something to it:confused3 When I plugged it into my Macbook it wouldn't work:confused3 Which I find funny- iPod/Mac=Apple? They should work together. I'll keep playing and get back to you.

Thanks , I'll be excited to know if it works. I tried ipodrip years ago to try to switch my itunes backward to laptop, could not get it to work. Tho I am technically challenged on some stuff. I'm one who likes to SEE it done , I find the directions on most software nutty.

It can be done. I was able to do it to my Windows laptop very easily. My iPod is synced to Windows. This is what I did in Windows- plugged in the iPod- then opened my computer- opened the removable drive(iPod)- the photos that you put directly on the iPod from your camera go into a folder named DCIM. Open folder DCIM- then folder 101Apple- the pictures are there. I copy and pasted them into my pictures folder. It looks like they are in my picture folder as an NEF files. I don't know how that relates to RAW. Each picture is a 5.7MB file.
Now to figure out how to do it on the Mac. I tend to be able to figure things out in Windows much easier than Mac. There is a section on how to get pictures from iPod to computer- both Mac and Windows in the online manual.
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPod_Features_Guide.pdf
Starting on around page 41 and how to use iPod as an external disk on pg 45

I'm wondering that if because my iPod is formatted for Windows it won't work properly with Mac. I can't seem to open anything(except iTunes) on the iPod thru the Mac like I can on Windows. :confused3 It just keep telling me if I sync it to the Mac it will erase everything already on it before i can add stuff from the Mac. I think thats my biggest gripe with the iPod. Our regular old mp3 players seem so much more user friendly. Then again I'm new to iPod so I haven't played with it as much.
