I have found that iPods rarely go on sale and when they do it is not a mindblowing price. I think Costco sells them a teeny bit cheaper. Once in a great while the official iPod website will have a sale. We have gotten all 4 of our iPods through apple. Free shipping and free laser engraving.

You could keep an eye on the Apple Store online for a refurbished one which a little cheaper then a brand new one. My DS12 bought himself a refurbed 8g Ipod Touch and so far so good. I have a refurbed Nano that I got a couple of years ago and DH has a refurbed Nano that was purchased 1 year ago.

Which iPod do you want?

There are 8GB iPod Nanos ($149, clicky) and there are 8GB iPod Touches ($199, clicky).

Personally, I'd go for the Touch.

Well Macy's wound up having the best price.

How can I be sure that this is 3G before I open. And what is with Apple, I mean they seem to get everything right on the customer satifaction level, except has not on person told them they could write just a wee bit bigger??
Is this just me??

3G, or 8GB? There should be a label on the bottom of the package with the relevant specs.

Go to store.apple.com and add the model to your cart. You will see a part number in grey type underneath the Ships: Within 24hrs line. For example. the 8GB 3g touch is MC086LL/A. That part number should be on the label of you iPod.
