About a month ago the home button on my 3GS started acting up. It is not as sensitive as it used to be and is kind of annoying. I went by Apple last Wednesday and since I bought my phone in '09 when it first came out I am out of warranty. They said for $99 they could replace the screen and that would take care of the problem. I decided that since the iPhone 5 is ru ored to be released this summer I would just try to hold off and wait.

WELL while walking around EPCOT last night I dropped my phone and shattered the screen. It is still useable but looks horrible. So should I pay the $99 and have the screen replaced or continue to try to hold off? Has anyone had similar problems with the home button? Will it progressively become less responsive? I just hate to pay to repair something I hope to replace come June or July.

I would pay the $99.00 and get it repaired. When it comes time for you to upgrade to the iPhone 5, you can then trade it in or sell it on ebay.

An iPhone 3GS just went for $260 on eBay. It didn't appear to be anything special, just a used phone with some cosmetic blemishes. So, right now your phone is worth more than the $99 to repair it.

Keep in mind that once the iPhone 5 comes out the value of your 3GS will fall. Of course it would have to fall a lot before it hit the $99 mark.

You might even get a little more on eBay if you did a jailbreak before selling it.
