Iphone out in November

Just read that the IPHONE will be available on the 9th of November! Price £269 inc VAT and tariffs from £35 per month. Can't wait to get mine! Anyone else getting one?

I've just been discussing this with a friend. My son wants one, but we've been advised to get it in the US - they reckon a lot cheaper out there.

What network will the iPhone be on? DH would kill for one. I couldn't get him out of the Apple shop in Florida Mall. I think it was just released there when we went.

DH is desperate to get one - boys and their toys but I doubt he will pay monthly £35 to O2 as you are tied in for 18 months.

If you are a real gadget geek remember:
Third party s/w cannot be loaded on to this phone, it is what it is.
Remember this phone is only available on Edge networks which is approx half the speed of current 3g networks.

When we were there last month there was a thing on the news about people getting their phone bills and it being delivered in a box as it was so big! It said that the bill itemises everything including every text you send and I think receive!

Saw these in the Apple Store in Mall at Millenia in August, they look really cool, think they were $500 over there. For me, too clever - I just want a phone which I can use to ring people!

Also discussions that the battery will only last 300 charges then requires the phone to be sent back to Apple for replacement of the battery.

From what I see it does less than my Ipaq; no Tomtom, no third party applications, poor battery life...

Obi, thanks for the report link. I know it doesn't have a GPS or is not 3G but it looks so cool I am a real Apple fan (we only use Macs at home PCs are banned!) I really need one don't want to wait until November!

I'm not sure. I remember reading on BBCNI teletext a few weeks ago that a Belfast company claimed to have cracked the software for the iPhone to unlock the American one. (One of several companies worldwide I think.) They were thinking of either to charge to do this or to release information to the masses until they got a nice little message from AT&T lawyers and promptly said they were reviewing what they were going to do. Haven't heard anything about it since. Probably been gagged with threat of legal action.

DH said that he saw on a Money Saving site yesterday a post from some one who was claiming to have a code to make the I phone from the US work on any network here. From what I have read previously US I phones won't work here. I think I will wait until they update them with more features and hopefully reduce the price before I get one.

No I am not getting one, they seemed a bit big for a phone when I saw them. Prefer using my Sony K810 with a good camera option.

However, I am getting the IPod Touch on Tuesday which looks exactly like the Iphone but is slightly narrower and obviously doesn't have the phone option on it.
