iPhone or Verizon?

Not sure what to do . . . contract is up and can get a new phone. Really want the iPhone. Love my Mac computer and the applications the iphone has but enjoy the service Verizon offers. Is there a comparable phone that Verizon offers, or is the iPhone worth dropping the Verizon service?

Any advice or help you could give would be greatly appreciated!

I don't think there is really any equal to the iphone, as much as I wish I had Verizon service with mine. They offer phones that LOOK like they would be similar but I really have not found one that compares. I dropped Verizon for the iPhone. If Verizon were to pick up the Apple contract along with ATT in 2010, I would contract under Verizon for service for an iphone.

Att has been fine. Never a problem with billing. But in my area, Verizon is king.

I'd check the AT&T 3G service in your area. My boyfriend just got an IPhone. He switched from Verizon. In the area right around Rochester, where we spend 99% of our time, he has great service. When we went to visit his parents in Vermont, they didn't have the 3G network there and it was slooooowwwwww. Along the route there were places that his Verizon phone got service that his AT&T/IPhone didn't.

So I would just check to make sure you get the coverage you want, where you need it. The IPhone is great, but only if it works!

After waiting for Verizon to get the Iphone, I finally switched 2 weeks ago. Coverage in my area is OK...but Verizon is so much better. But I love my Iphone and will learn to deal with the coverage issues. I live in an apt building and no coverage in garage at all, in my apt...can't get coverage by the door...so the first thing I do now when I get home is put phone by window;) I was at the movies yesterday, my son's verizon had 2 bars inside the theater, my Iphone had none :headache: (Son is on a prepay plan with Verizon and didn't want to move to AT&T, loves his phone)

Other than coverage...I absolutely love my IPhone:love:

DH and DD18 both have Blackberries with verizon since the Iphones coverage around here is spotty. They pretty much always have internet access with Verizon everywhere they go.

DH has the Blackberry Storm and DD18 has the Blackberry Pearl and they both love them.

As much as I want an iPhone, Verizon has better service in my area than AT&T. People that my house with AT&T constantly drop calls. It's not worth it for me, so I'm sticking with Verizon and my BlackBerry Storm. I hope the iPhone comes to Verizon in 2010, and I will gladly switch!

We just switched to Verizon and have the EnV Touch phones. Granted they are not as fancy as the Iphone, but these were actually getting better ratings online and the monthly cost is much less. Service has not been an issue here in KY.

At&T's plans just cost too much. I even tried my employer discount-22% sprint, 21% Verizon, 10% off of the base plan only for AT&T.

Find out how AT&T coverage is in your area. Around where I live so many complain about dropped calls. Those with AT&T have issues making cals in the building where I work.

I'm just going to wait 2 years when my contract is up again and hope by that time Verizon has one. I just got the BlackBerry Curve and love it.

I don't think there is really a right answer. It depends on what is more important to you, the iPhone or the coverage? The iPhone as a phone is no different than anything else, in fact it has a pretty weak radio for calls in it. What the iPhone gives you is the ecosystem. If the iPhone ecosystem of applications is more important than the better data coverage of the Verizon network go ahead and switch. Keep in mind though that the Blackberry does have an ecosystem of its own. It is much younger so the choices aren't there yet but they will be. The Android phones, which I think in the long run will be the best devices out there, have a bunch of new handsets coming out in the fall. Like Android, WebOS is open source and easy to develop applications for. Right now the only WebOS phone is the Pre but there will be additional WebOS phones come this fall. Both of these options have a developing ecosystem but are legitimate alternatives to the iPhone. The advantage of all of these is that the manufacturer is not as controlling of what is released. Apple has a habit of blocking apps while Android will have a hands off approach outside of the official app store.

The iPhone exclusivity contract is ending in 2010 with AT&T and I am pretty sure it will be available on rival networks. Verizon not being a GSM carrier means there will have to be some re-engineering done but I think Apple is already at work, or even done, with that.

We've had Verizon for years. There service is awesome, but there phones have always lagged behind. Right now, I use an LG Voyager and my wife is in love with her Blackberry Pearl. I might switch to the Palm Pre when Verizon gets it in early January. As much as I think the iPhone is cool, I won't leave Verizon for one.

AT&T Coverage varies a lot from area to area - some areas AT&T is great - others, not so much. One thing I would add, is get current information about how the AT&T service is in your area - If you knew someone who had bad coverage with AT&T a year ago, things may have changed. We got our iPhones last fall, and the coverage around our home was spotty. It was OK at home, but if we headed even a few blocks north to the area we do most of our shopping, the coverage was awful. However over the past few months coverage has improved dramatically. 3G service covers a much larger area and calls no longer drop where they used to drop all the time.

AT&T knows they have a problem with their network - they are bringing on customers like mad because of the iPhone but they know that they risk losing many of them because of their network issues - so AT&T is working to improve coverage etc. The question is, are they improving it fast enough and most importantly for you, have they improved it in the areas where you need it most.

I just got me the new iPhone 3G last month and the coverage is really good..they just came out with the new iPhone 3GS this month and its supposed to be even better..

So, what is the latest and greatest for the Blackberry? The Storm?

I believe they are coming out with a new Storm model in the fall? I would wait for that if you want a touch screen. DH has the storm, he really likes it but I find the keyboard to be awkward and not as easy as my iPod Touch. Ibet the new one will have some improvements.

I really love my pink Curve. I was on a flight today and able to surf the DIS as we had a long taxi to the gate. :)
