First let me say that I'm currently writing EVERY phone number down that is stored in my phone. If you have an iPhone...I suggest you do the same:sad2:

My DH and I have had the 8gb iPhones since Aug. 2009. We loved (past tense) them....UNTIL this past Nov. I was at Disney Nov. 11-16th on my first solo trip and on the last night....the phone died:scared1:

When I got back my husband went to AT & T (I was working) and they told him the phone was "dead". They sold him a "cheapo" phone ($70)and put my sim card in his iPhone as I use the smartphone features more than he does.....they told him we were eligible for "upgrades" in Jan. 2011 :confused3

Tonight I hooked the remaining iPhone to the computer/iTunes to upgrade the software.....it restored "factory settings"!?!??!:scared1: Despite the fact that I had backed up the phone TODAY...I was eventually able to restore it to July 2010 settings. Lost a LOT of phone #'s and pictures.

DH will be taking the phone to AT & T tomorrow (again I'm working) they will be GLAD I'm not there....

Needless to say, our service with them has been less than stellar and we will NOT be renewing our contract in Aug. 2011.

Just a heads up for those using iPhones and AT &T.......:headache:

You're probably better off taking the phone to an apple store if you have one near you. Otherwise, try calling apple support.

Yes, and you can make a Genius Bar appointment online.

I'm starting to think I'm going to need a genius lol! Or I'm just iPhone stupid...which is an absolute possibility:rotfl: Going to iTunes now...carefully though:thumbsup2

The iphone dying sounds like an Apple issue vs AT&T issue - they may have replaced your phone for you back in November if you had brought it to the genius bar as it was just out of warranty.

What other issues have you had?

My phone died while out of town. Walked into an apple store and they gave me a new iPhone right there. I didn't have my contacts or apps until I plugged it to the computer when I got home. I can't understand why the store gave you a cheap replacement phone when iPhone is under warranty.

I should have done more research, but I was in a panic:headache: Up until Nov. we loved the phones although AT & T coverage is lacking....

Hmmmm they told us there was "no" warrenty on the iPhone because it was more than a year old? I'm wondering now if AT&T is just trying to get our $:guilty:

Oh and back up regularly, especially if you're collecting photos or other data with your phone. It's pretty easy to just pop it onto the computer sync cable once or twice a week. I have an iPad and iPod Touch (no iPhone) but the principle is the same.

Another thing I do is use Google for Mail, Voice, Calendar and Contacts. Sync my iOS devices with Google as an Exchange server and I don't have any issues with lost data.

Did you pay by credit card? Some give you an extended warranty.

I have question Why was the phone numbers not save to sim card. I understand picutre being save to the phone. That is very odd that numbers is not save to the sim card.

Did know could put iphone sim card in a prepaid ATT phone and be good to go.

I have not bought a phone from ATT in years. I refuse to sign a two year contract with them. ATT is falling behind in the phone business. There pre-paid phones suck. Plus they do not pre-paid Android phone yet. T-moblie , Verizon, Cricket, Sprint Virgin, and Boost all have one.

I'm sorry you lost all your data :(. If you sync with a laptop I would suggest that you bring it with you when you see the Genius at the Apple Store.

Had you backed up between July and today? I remember all kinds of nightmares with the last update. Perhaps you can plug your phone in and choose "restore" and select a more recent backup date.

FWIW, I love my iPhone but it is a PITB. I will buy another iPhone but I will also purchase the extended Apple Care warranty. My current 3g phone, which is only about a year and a half old, lost it's wifi a few months ago and the battery life is complete crap. If I had Apple Care it would have been replaced for me under warranty.

OH. I thought you got the new ones LAST summer. Unless you bought AppleCare, then it is a 1 year warranty. Sorry
