I got an early birthday present today, an iphone. And now I want to buy an app. If i buy it online (itunes) can i put it on to my iphone? And if a buy and app on the phone will it take it out of my itunes account (with all my giftcard money on it) or wil it be put on my phone bill?

Thanks!

You can buy apps either through iTunes or on your iPhone; to buy on the phone using AT&T's network, the app must be below a certain size threshold (I believe it's 10 MB or so). You can buy apps of any size using your phone if you're connected via WiFi.

The cost of the app is paid through iTunes regardless of the method you use to purchase it (if you have gift card funds available, it will come out of those, and if not, it'll be billed to any credit card you might have associated with your iTunes account.) If you buy it using iTunes, it will be synced to your phone the next time you sync. If you buy it on your phone, it will be synced back to iTunes the next time you sync. You'll end up with the app in both places no matter what. :)

Have fun with the new gift! I'm a complete and total iPhone nerd so if you ever have questions, fire away. Yes, I'm one of the people who was incredibly excited to follow Engadget's live blog updates today during the media event Apple held to discuss details of iPhone OS 4.0, which will be released this summer (theoretically alongside a new iPhone! I am insanely giddy about that. :sad2:  )

You might also check out some free or "lite" versions of apps and try them out before you buy. There are TONS available on iTunes, and I know somebody here has a thread going (on the Budget Board, maybe?) that has compiled a list of the best free apps out there.

buying an app is exactly like buying anything else in the store, it will use your saved preferences for payment. The apps will move over when you synch, unless you chose to manually manage your content. When you plug in it will recognise your phone and when you select the phone from the "active device" column on the left of your computer screen it will launch the tabs that will allow you to manage your content and set up preferences

Thank you both so much. I know I can always count on the people on theese boards. You guys seem to have the answers to practically everything:thumbsup2

Oh, and you have to get Toy Story Mania. I freaking LOVE that game. Played it for hours when I first bought it and still do whenever I have a bit of time to kill. So much fun, and so similar to the ride and to the Wii version of the game (bits of the Wii game and the iPhone app are actually identical. It's so cool.)

ok im having an emergency. I was on my phone this morning playing around with apps and such, and all of a sudden it zoomed in! It zoomed in on the home screen and it won't let me zoom out. Help!

That stinks! I've never had that happen to me before, so I'm not sure what occurred.

Here's what I would try: Tap the home screen twice with your finger, like double-clicking a mouse. That's the default zoom in/out. If that doesn't work, hold down the home button for at least three seconds (the actual button on the bottom of the front of the phone). If *that* doesn't work, then I'd hold down the button on the very tippy top of the phone. That should reset it. The iPhone is a little computer, and sometimes they freeze just like normal computers.

Hope that helps, and enjoy!
