iphone capability from the ship with Wifi?

does iphone texting work if you purchase the wifi on the ship? I don't really need long distance calling but I wanted the ability to text and check on the pets and wasn't sure if iphone works like it does in the air .....??

Yes that's what I use and gave used to blog for the last two long cruises.

Only issue is if you book a package on the internet there if the phone is on it can automatically connect to the wifi using your password and if you gave Apps or photo stream running use up the data fast.

FYI. Be sure to sign out of the app and not just close the app because it keeps running.
On the top right of the page you will see it says sign out

Make sure you turn off automatic app updates at settings - iTunes&App Store. I spent $8 updating my apps that way on our last cruise.

The folks on the boat will help you turn everything off so it doesn't pull data. We stopped back to see them on the last night to turn everything back on.

Please note that the wifi will only allow you to text via iMessage - i.e., to other iPhone users - or using non-text apps like Google Hangout, Facebook Messenger, etc. If you are trying to contact someone who doesn't have an iPhone, or trying to message them via their phone number, that is an SMS message and will not work over wifi.
