iPhone and distance calculations

What is the best application for calculating the distance I am walking?

I am using a walking trail and it says it is a mile, but I am not so sure. I walk it too fast...So I am SURE it is less than a mile.

Is there something for iPhone that will do this.

I understand that the "Steps" program really does not work. Is there another one out there that might work?

I don’t have an iPhone but I can tell you the two PC apps I use to calculate distance are Microsoft Streets & Trips or Google Earth. Google Earth is platform agnostic and I am pretty sure there is an iPhone app for Google Earth. I do not know if all version are full featured though.

With the PC version of Google Earth you use the ruler tool.

I downloaded iMapMyRun from the App Store to my iPhone 3G. It uses the GPS capabilities to track your route. I haven't tried it yet, I'm waiting for it to get warmer before heading outdoors. You are supposed to be able to upload your information to mapmyrun.com to maintain your routes including distances and time. I haven't tried this yet either but plan to soon. It looks like it will meet my needs and hopefully will meet yours.
