iPhone 5: Does it have navigation?

Although I am not the OP, I have asked the mapquest question and see that most of you do like it and it is for free.

I'll just be using it around my area since I am directionally challenged LOL

When my dh and I use our GPS, we hook it up on the windshield.
What do you all do with the iPhone 5? Do you just keep it on your lap or next to you in the car and you can hear it OK?

Thanks!

I'm sure there are mounting kits available for the iPhone that either suction to the winshield or the dash. I don't have an iPhone yet but on my Android phone I just stick it in the cup holder and can hear it fine for navigation.

If it's a short trip, I just hold it in my hand.

For longer trips, I have a holder that clips into the CD slot in our car. I also have a Bluetooth attachment so I can hear the GPS through our car speakers if needed.

Check out GPS Motion X Drive. This is far superior to Map Quest and only costs $0.99.

Google maps is now available for iPhone for free; however, I've been using the maps that comes preinstalled on the phone with no issues. Matter of preference of course.

Not me! Today I wanted to go to a store for a present for DH - plugged it in to the iPhone, and darned if I didnt end up in a Meijer's store - saying "Destination" um NO!! I called the store - and it was the address that the iphone's map had listed mind you - but it was way east of my true destination!

I'm really disappointed - came home told dh and he installed google maps for me!

I second this recommendation... This is the one I use exclusively.

Google Maps just popped up in the App Store Wednesday evening. I haven't used it (Apple Maps works fine for me) but my husband and mom have used it on their iPhone 4s and both say it's great. It does have turn-by-turn navigation. :)

I purchased a brand new iPhone 5 in November. I returned it after 2 weeks because the device was simply not apple quality.

Yes it was very think and very fast and the screen was wider, however it had way too many flaws.

Namely it's navigation was poor and the screen was dark with poor color... oh and the price was outrageous!

I bought a htc phone with google android and it has the best google powered navigation system I have ever seen. I bought a used one on ebay for about 100 bucks and it works fine. The screen is about the same size as the iphone 5, the speed is ok, it has tons of features compared to the iphone 5.

android os has the best navigation I have ever seen.

You know that you can adjust iPhone screen brightness, right?

As for navigation, nothing beats the FREE Google maps available for the iPhone.

So, what is the consensus with the iPhone 5 for navigation?
Mapquest?
I am getting an iPhone 5 for Christmas and I want turn by turn voice navigation just to get me around my borough. If I needed to go long distances my dh would drive or I would use my GPS.

So, if I want to just get from point A to B around my neighborhood, I should download mapquest and it talks? Is it free?

I don't have a smartphone now so all this is new to me.

Thanks.

Just to follow up, I downloaded the google maps app (for free) and I used it this weekend. It was great for me to get around since I wasn't sure where I was going. It gave me turn by turn easy navigation. I was very happy with it and I directionally challenged :drive:
