Is there a best way to buy an iPad? I thought about Target so I could get 5% off, but then saw that if I use AmEx I can extend the warranty. Is there a better option? Directly from Apple maybe? I'm guessing they don't go on sale?

DH ordered ours directly from Apple two weeks ago. We linked to apple.com through the Discover Card website and got 5% in cash back bonus points for the total price. We also did in-store pick-up so we had no shipping charges and no sales tax. It arrived in the store in four business days.

I don't believe we have an apple store locally. I can go to the Navy base, are they still the same price there, just without tax?

One more question also, if I get it from Apple is it worth saving $50 to get a refurb? Looks also like refurbs can't be engraved. They do have free shipping, but $25 tax.

Not sure if the navy base is going to have the $399 ones. They don't have them online.

I bought a refurb itouch from apple over a year ago and everything is fine. It still comes with the exact same warranty as new. but can't get engraved...not sure about the tax thing since I live in NH and we do not have sales tax. I went thru Discover and got the 5% cash back and shopped Applestore .
We bought the ipad 2 for Christmas and LOOOOOOVE It...
Maybe someone will have sale or gift card this week. Does Amazon have sales tax?

Right now I would personally just buy an iPad 2 on sale if any can be found. Or buy a refurb through apple using a CC with a good rebate/points.

I would definitely recommend getting an iPad 2. They are cheaper and to be quite honest, I can't really tell the difference between the new iPad and my old iPad 2. I'm sure there is one, but for the difference in price, go with the iPad 2.

Oh and check out squaretrade. they have great deals on the warranties and their service is top notch.

Walmart has a special bundle pkg with an iPad2. The basic bundle includes a car charger, wall charger, ear phones, splitter and a clear cover. For a bit more, you can upgrade to a better cover.

I am leaning toward buying it online and getting it engraved with his name and phone number, even though it will be under the case maybe it will help insure that it doesn't end up lost. I ordered a gumdrop drop series case.

We did get a refurb - new battery, new casing & the exact same warranty as a "new" one. DH did research before getting it and felt the refurb was a good choice. We both love it. I don't know about shipping to a base - you would probably be charged for home delivery. Happy shopping!

I purchased an open box from Best Buy and ended up saving I believe $75 dollars. It was marked down then they had a sale going on where I saved an additional %.

If money is a concern I would do the iPad2 with more memory over an iPad3 with less memory. I can tell the difference between the visuals of the two, the iPad3 is stunning but you'll want all the space.
