The new iPads were announced today. I ordered an iPad mini (last year's model) for my 8 yo granddaughter for Christmas. Apple is selling the refurbished iPad Mini's for $249. The new iPad mini's with retina display are $399.

As I pointed out in the other thread where you mentioned this, you can buy a new iPad Mini (not the newest version announced today) for only $50 more than the refurbished Mini ($299.00).

Luckily Apple.com refurbs are pretty much new. They usually replace the screen and case as well before reselling them.

Definitely save the $50 and go with a refurb from Apple. :thumbsup2

Yes, I bought my Macbook Pro and iPad first generation refurbished -- they work flawlessly and came looking brand new!

I only wish I had seen this yesterday! The refrub'd white ones are all gone, but the black (16GBs) are still there. What a great deal!

I have had both a refurb'd iTouch and a new iTouch and have had good experiences with both. The refurb'd did have a minor issue, but Apple was great about fixing it quickly.

I know one little girl who will be extremely happy to get one of these iPads :)

Happy bargain hunting y'all!!

Just as an FYI, my 9 year old filled up my 32gb pretty quickly. The newer apps require quite a bit of memory, and they don't really come with 32gb, part of that is already filled up with the operating system, so it isn't a true 16gb or 32gb.

When we bought my 13 year old an ipad mini this year, we opted for the 64gb. He hasn't filled it, but he has right about 32gb filled and we plan to download several movies for our upcoming trip.

For only $50 more, I personally would buy a new version. Refurbished is not the same as new. However, I prefer the regular iPad anyway.

You can buy an external storage unit for much less money than a larger GB iPad, which can be used by multiple people at once, plus can store your movies, photos, etc. digitally. You can get a Kingston Digital Wi-Drive 32 GB USB 2.0 Pocket-Sized Portable Storage with US AC Adapter on Amazon for $49.99, which works beautifully. It is very small too, about the size of a very, very thin cigarette pack. Larger sizes are also available.
