The abilty to talk face to face on phones has been around from many many years. I agree, I have never know anyone who used it after the novelty wore off after a few days.

We use FaceTime here all the time when DH is out of town. He has it on his ITouch and we have it on our desktop and laptop. It's great for my son! Yes, we've tried Skype but have had nothing but issues with it when trying to use it at the hotel he stays out.

My dad and I use it all the time. We used it on thanksgiving to say hello from a family gathering in Texas to the other family gathering back home in Atlanta. I love it!

I think that what we've seen of FaceTime so far is just step 1 in the process. At some point, there will be FaceTime over GPRS rather than over WiFi. That may make it a bit more useful, or at least more flexible.

I'm excited!! My 10th anniversary is coming up on March 17th and I've been waiting to hear about the iPad 2 because I REALLY want to get DH one as a gift! I just hope we won't have to wait until summer to get it. I'll have to give him a picture of the iPad instead of the actual thing!

My partner and I use the face-to-face on our iPod Touches.

We do not have a smart phone. The Touch is smart enough for us with no monthly fee.

Right there with you. I never buy first generation technology because no matter how good it is, there are always glitches to be worked out -- but I think I'm going to take the plunge on the iPad 2.
