Someone mentioned changing your computer's IP address. How do you do that?

If you have a dial-up modem and your ISP uses a proxy server (like AOL does) then your IP changes everytime you log on. If you have a cable modem, your ISP remains the same. There is no way for you to change this because it is a number which is assigned to you by your ISP.

if you are having a problem with your IP address, if you get this type of message, "that IP address is already being used", check with your cable provider. That happened to us and it turned out someone was stealing the cable service and the address. We couldn't get on when they were using it.

Wow Dave! It amazes me the length to which people will go to get something for free!! That is terrible that someone was using your ISP without you knowing!
