This sounds like a dumb question, but are you allowed to wear bikini tops on the water rides at universal? I.e wear shorts and a vest around the park and then have a bikini top underneath and take the vest off when you go on the ride?

I want quick-dry action without bringing a heavy bag with me

The "dress code" for females in the parks during hot weather at Universal is, how can I say this, very lax. This is one of the most glaring differences with WDW. What you describe for attire would be very middle-of-the-road.

I have had young men take their shirts off and would have striped to their underwear if they could. I would not be offended if everything was covered. I do not hink you can walk aroung the park in a bikini top but you indicated that you would have a vest over it and just take it off on the rides so that should be fine. I am also a 40yr old women with an 8y old daughter so I would think you would be fine.

Great thank you, nice to know I'm not going to get turfed out into the carpark haha

When we were there, a European man stripped down to his speedo and water shoes when he got on the Bilge Rat Barges ride. We were cracking up. Shortly thereafter, an announcement was made that shirts and shoes must be worn on the ride at all times. I wasn't sure if it was meant for him or for me, since I'd taken my tennis shoes off once I was on the ride, and I just carried them with me when the ride was over. Next time I'm wearing shoes I don't mind getting wet.

I did see several women wearing bikini tops around the park, so that should be no problem at all.

I have had young men take their shirts off...

FWIW, the first time we rode Kali over at AK there was a raft full of young men who took off their shirts. It's not specific to Universal.

And yes plenty of women are in bikini tops at Universal on hot days. I am not sure that it's the smartest thing to do, since water rides can be bumpy (and we once witnessed a total bra failure while on Jimmy Neutron (now Despicable Me), so wardrobe malfunctions aren't totally unheard of when wearing small clothes on bumpy rides)...if I were doing such a thing I would likely wear a tankini type of top instead, or a workout tank that dries quickly...but others will be doing it.

Just remember that the real source of discomfort after a water ride is if you're wearing cotton under your shorts/pants. Go "quick-dry" clothing all the way to the skin, if you want to remain comfy after a water ride.

My 2DDs and I were at IOA walking around together after being on a water ride. My teen DD had a bikini top on and was told a shirt was required for walking around, however my young DD was OK in a bathing suit and so was I with my full coverage tankini top & mid-thigh skirt. Go figure! YMMV!

I think you should be fine. I will say the last time we were at Universal in the Summer it was so hot we must have rode the water rides 10 times. It felt great having a wet shirt on to walk around in. My only suggestion is to not wear something see through. I have seen way too many women's bras and flowered underwear.

Well it's safe to say I wont be cracking out the Speedos!

You're all bringing up things I hadn't even though of - might wear a swimsuit under light shorts to avoid wet cotton and any bikini slip. So much disaster potential ;)
