Invited to another Forum

i just got a message to join another disney forum . Not sure if thats ok to do on here or not>. i still have it if anyone wants or needs it. I am new here so just asking..

I received one also. While I was excited, it was my first PM, I don't really know what to do about it. I too would appreciate advice from anyone who knows about the other forums out there.

It really depends on the forum.

There are a lot of Disney forums and resources out there. The legitimate Disney information and trip planning sites are all open to anyone, and a lot of them offer great information.

The boards that are "closed", requiring a membership or an invitation to join, are generally social gossip type sites. Most of them are not really Disney sites at all, although some of them do make sport of reading posts on the other sites and then ridiculing or disrupting their targets.

It's really up to each individual to determine what kind of experience and community they are looking for. It takes all kinds, right?

The one thing I will add is that anyone who's an actively participating member of a community that is hostile toward the DISboards or engages in harassing or ridiculing our posters won't be welcome to participate here, as you would expect.

Sites with messageboards that I enjoy outside of the DISboards.....

themouseforless.com has a Yahoo group.

wdwmagic.com has it's own discussion forum, but it's got a different vibe than the DIS.

magictrips.com has a community forum that's pretty nice too, very small crew over there, but a nice bunch.

I know that there are more, but these are the only ones that I have found that are worth frequenting over the years. YMMV

My fav part about this board is everyone excepts that everyone has an opinion, and suggestion and everyone takes them light to heart instead of getting upset, although everyone here does love disney, and this is the easiest dis fix when not there IMHO!!!

I'm a member here and also on TGM, which is a site that requires membership, are you saying that it is not a Disney site?

I think the TGM website has a great community one of the nicest I have ever seen and very helpful.

I think there are certain sites where we are not welcome to post and remain in "good standing here," even if we'e said nothing slanderous, etc.
At least that is the impression I get?

i would reverse that idea... there are other sites that get a thorn in their paw about you posting on the disboards...

there are some verboten words and sites here on disboards that were the result of folks from other sites bending to stretching the rules of this site. I know there are folks that find the moderators on disboards heavy handed... but as you read though the vast and large about of posts, most are up beat, there is no spam, and the topics stay on topic, and flame wars are rare. i don't see those as bad things... heck if there were no cops in real life, what kind of society would we have? So what some people see as heavy handed might better be described as active policing.

I didn't say anything about sites that we "deem unsavory"; I referred to sites that are hostile to the DIS. If a site's stated purpose is to cause trouble here on our forums, that's hostile.
