We just received this today as well. We are not founding members...we bought via phone from a rep in Florida a few years ago. I logged onto the website and we have reservations for Friday night @ 7:00. Last time they had the California event we did not receive an invitation.:confused3 I called member services to ask why we were excluded and they could not come up with an answer exept to apologize for the oversight. We live in the hills 10 miles east of Disneyland and could easily have gone. I learned about that event here on the Disboards.

I mainly would like to see the villa models and get tidbits of new information. We are not interested in buying more points right now.

That sounds like the Doorway to Dreams event they just had at the Doorway store in suburban Chicago. We went to it and didn't add-on, despite all of the hype to do so. The kids got to see characters - Tinker Bell was the best part of it all since my DD didn't get to see her on our last trip to WDW in Oct due to the nearly 2 hour line, and we got to tour the BLT model. It really wasn't anything to write home about, but all in all it was an ok way to spend a few hours.

I received my invite today and will be attending on the 27th. I will be buying but it depends on the incentives to determine the exact number of points.

Looking at the location of the people who were invited it appears they are sending an invitation to those who live in California. As for the dates I believe the founding members event, if I remember correctly from another thread, is on March 26.

Founding members get to go on Thursday, March 26 at 7:00, and for other people there are the following dates and times they can go:

(I guess I posted around the same time as the person above me, so sorry for the double post of info).

I just booked friday. We'll probably stay a few nights there also, using points in our holding account.

Thanks for the info. We just got back from CA (and we just signed the paperwork for our VGC). I expect I'll be a little bit jealous of the deals they offer, but that's life. :confused3 On the other hand, I know someone who is going to be at DL on that weekend--lucky ducks! Maybe they can take part .... :)

Can I ask what incentives that offered at the Doorway to Dreams event?

Depending on the number of points added on (these were for existing members and the new member incentives might heve been a bit different) - you got a Disney Cruise of 3, 4 or 7 nights (restricted sailings through December 2010) - for add ons of 100, 160 or 200 points, a 7 night RCI vacation (no need to exchange points) - not sure if the 100 point got this, and Mary Poppins tickets - to the show playing in Chicago - 2 or 4 tix depending on the points. If you added 220 I think you got an Adventures by Disney vacation for 2 as well or possibly instead of the cruise.

We added on 200 at BLT (these were for BLT by the way) and I just got my Mary Poppins tickets in the mail - better than I expected. Four tickets, in the lower balcony for a Saturday matinee in early June (face value $77 each before the ticketmaster fee I would have paid to buy them, so I think about a $325 value). As soon as the closing happens I will get the voucher for the 7 night cruise and RCI week.

yeah i added on this past weekend only to come home to an invite for this event. shucks.... and im sure they will have some special incentives too...
if they offer the mickey penthouse stay again i'll cry....

just received our packet in the mail today. The points seem rather high per night...
a studio in the summer is 23 points, a one bedroom is 46 and a two bedroom is 62! YIKES!!!

For this amount I will stay on Harbor Blvd and I have toured the rooms in CA and they are beautiful but I don't think paying that amount is worth it for our family......

I just got the invite to this today - not many slots are still open, but we're thinking about going.

Can anyone guess what sorts of "other surprises" there will be? Maybe I'm crazy to drive an hour down there just to hear stuff I've already learned about GCV on the DIS and eat some Pepperidge Farm cookies and lemonade! :rotfl:

I got the invite today too....we're in AZ. My hubby and I already have our trip planned for the 28th to the 1st so this is an extra perk for our trip!! I am excited. I signed up for Sunday at 7pm.:cool1:

We got our packet today as well. I'll be in Vegas those days, so we won't be going. I have already seen the models, and I am very impressed, but the point cost per night is insane. I can priceline a 3-4 diamond hotel in the area for $41/night. I'll save my points for WDW where my points will get me more nights.

Can I ask what incentives that offered at the Doorway to Dreams event?

Sure, no problem. They were basically pushing BLT, but the whole premise of the show was actually to highlight the changes to the World Passport collection via RCI, and how much the members had been asking for a way to trade out for shorter trips and that's a big reason why they went with RCI.
They also talked about Adventures by Disney, DCL, the new treehouses and a very brief mention of VGC.

I've actually copied over information from another thread that was all about that event, I've just put it all into the past tense since it's long over and done with...

Kids: The kids were off in a supervised room where they could play games, color, watch videos, etc. during the presentation. Afterwards Mickey & Minnei, Aladdin, the Genie, and Tinker Bell came out. There was a dance party with refreshments.

Giveaways: Everybody got a folder with a pad of paper in it, together with a pen. Inside it was a RCI point chart with the nightly points as well, in addition to a passport holder, 2 luggage tags, kid's type binoculars (to see the critters better from the new treeshouses) and a fancy rice crispy cookie (in honor of the various birthdays being celebrated that day).

There was a giveaway drawing for a single, 7 night, 2 bedroom, RCI exchange in the World Passport collection.

The deals: They pushed BLT, but upon questioning, the same deals were offered for both AKV and SSR for the Treehouses.

All points at $112 - $5 credit = $107. All existing members were automatically approved for financing and no closing costs. If you financed, the first payment wouldn't be due until May (the event was in February). Minimum Purchase 100 points. No Developer points.

If you bought 100 points you would get a 3 night cruise for 4, plus 2 tickets to "Mary Poppins" which is opening in Chicago this month.

At the 160 point level you would get a 4 night cruise for 4, plus a single 7 night 2 bedroom RCI exchange, plus 2 "Mary Poppins" tickets.

At the 200 point level you would get a 7 night cruise for 4, plus a single 7 night 2 bedroom RCI exchange, plus 4 "Mary Poppins" tickets.

At the 270 point level you would get an Adventurers by Disney trip for 2, plus a single 7 night 2 bedroom RCI exchange and 4 "Mary Poppins" tickets.

I'm sure the focus of this event will be VGC vs. BLT, although BLT very well may be included in the offerings. Since the "Mary Poppins" national tour was opening in Chicago at the time, and I don't know when it will make it out to LA, that probably won't be in the mix of incentive offerings for this particular event. RCI probably will figure in pretty heavily though. I'm anxious to hear what kinds of incentives are offered at this event, just to see how it all compares. We were hoping for more Disney incentives - like AP's or something else, but that just wasn't in the mix that night.

One of the big aspects of the night was the "Wishmeister" - a character kind of in the vein of Dee-Vee Cee, but male. His costume was outlandish (think Elton John in the "70's and early '80's), and was IMO quite annoying. They played him up though throughout the show. There were basically 3 guides leading the show, and every member (or non-member based on the event one went to) in the audience was given a voting device. They proceeded to ask all kinds of questions about how we all like to vacation - and kept trying to show how much RCI is important and worth our while. (Personally, my DW and I bought into DVC for the Disney properties - if we'd wanted RCI, we would have bought an RCI timeshare, but I digress).

This event might be completely different, but the reservation link was identical to what I filled out for the Doorway event. For those of you going, please do share afterwards!
