Invitational Upgrades???

Invitational Upgrades? What are they and how do they work? Someone on these posts mentioned that you can call to reserve a value and ask for an invitational upgrade and if they are available, Disney will give you the moderate room for the value price.
Does anyone have any information or any experiences with this? Thanks!!

The term is "upsell rate" and they are rarely available anymore. Before codes became commonplace, WDW used to offer "upsell rates" An "upsell rate" was if you called and inquired about a Value resort, and WDW was trying to get more occupancy into their Moderates, they'd offer you the Moderate for usually $10 or so more per night than the Value. They'd get more occupancy at their Moderate, and the customer would be happier they got a good deal. With codes becoming so prevelant nowadays, WDW really doesn't do this anymore. You couldn't ask for the "upsell rate", it had to be offered to you.
