Inventions Buffet confusion

Hi all,

Ok, I'm sorry if what I'm about to ask it obvious, but can someone clarify for me??

I understand that the Inventions Sunday Brunch is character heavy, amazing, has a theme, great food, etc etc. We're not going to be there on a Sunday for the next two trips, so that's out.

I LOVE the look of the food there, but DH is less enthusiastic (not liking sea food, picky generally....), so I'm trying to find an angle to convince him! ;) But like I say, the Sunday brunch is out for the foreseeable future.

I see they do lunchtime buffet and evening buffet options too.

I think I've already picked up from here that the EVENING buffet DOES have characters appearing? If so, how many? And is the food on a par with the Sunday brunch?

Does the LUNCHTIME buffet have characters at all?? And is the food on a par with the Sunday brunch?

(Btw, we went for breakfast in the DLH twice last trip, and I couldn't see where Inventions ended and California Grill started.... or am I just being daft!? We ate down one end near the 'enclosed' buffet for breakfast the one morning, and the second morning sat down the other end next to the open buffet! Assuming the former was California Grill, latter was Inventions? California Grill menu looks amazing but again, wouldn't suit DH and is VERY expensive! Dammit! lol)

Thanks all

I can't help with the current character situation at the normal daily lunchtime buffet (there are definitely characters there every evening, and for the Sunday brunch).

As you enter the restaurants, California Grill is to your right, Inventions is to your left :). Every time we've had breakfast here its been in Cali Grill, I love the decor there.

Lol good, that's what I thought, I was a bit confused! :rotfl: Thanks.

How many characters are around in the evening? Who have you seen? And how does the food compare int he evening to the Sunday brunch?

Lunch has no characters. Sometimes there are exceptions (I've sometimes seen flyers in DLH for Christmas season advertising character lunch), but as general rule of thumb: no characters.

If you hang around long enough the evening buffet does have about the same number of characters. But you're lucky if you see someone out of the ordinary there. It's usually Mickey, Minnie, Pluto etc., basically the usual suspects. Add in one or two characters from Pooh (normally Tigger and/or Eeyore) and one or two "guest stars". They can be great (Angel was spotted there) or just slightly out of the ordinary (Cinderella's mice).

There's an invention Brunch thread and the main Inventions review thread. They have photos of the food. I've done both in December, but didn't have time yet to upload the latest reviews. Personally I consider the food seclection at brunch way better, especially for the dessert area.

Thanks Vala, that's just what I wanted to know. I've been looking through those review threads, and I think I might be better off waiting to do the Sunday brunch some time in the future! Just means I'll have to visit again sometime in the future.... ;)

We came back from DLP two weeks ago and did the Inventions evening buffet for my birthday.

Whilst the night was perfect, we were sat next to a big window and you had a fab view and Mini was delightful when she brought my birthday cake out, the food selections were quite poor and very slowly refilled. It was fine, there was plenty to eat - but I too am quite picky, and as half of the things were incorrectly labelled, I spent most of my night eating salad, potato, pizza and chicken nuggets! Hahaha!

Character wise, we had Mickey, Mini and Goofy... I was quite disappointed with how few characters were available. Which is a real shame, as the main reason we were okay with spending £50 per person on a buffet was the character interaction.

We wanted some where with characters for my birthday and it was between Inventions and Cafe Mickey - we wanted somewhere a little nicer and not as loud, and so opted for Inventions. In retrospect, I don't think we would make the same decision again.

However, all that being said - I've read rave reviews of the Sunday brunch, and it's something we will definitely try next time.

If you go to the dinner I recommend booking a later seating. Some characters were only showing up for the first time after 9 PM in December.
