Greetings friends...

I visited Disney when I was 8 yrs old for 1 day and have very, very few memories of it at all (the whole vacation was a ridiculous, sleep-deprived blur; My dad drove and made us stop at every tourist spot on the Eastern seaboard in 7 days).

My family and I have been living about an hour away from Walt Disney World for the last 10 years... and have just never really had the opportunity to go. I guess you could call us working class income so we live on a strict budget and usually go on rustic camping trips a couple of times a year as vacation, or visit relatives. We've spent years without a car, so trudging a family of 5 across the state for a theme park we couldn't afford anyway was out of the question.

Well... this year is special. This month is our 10 yr wedding anniversary, and the 15 year anniversary of our first date. My husband and I are both turning 40 this month as well. Plus one kid had a birthday in July, and the other has a birthday this month. My youngest turned 8 in February, and he shared his gift with the family by asking for something we could all use (a local museum membership).

So we decided to scrimp and save and get one big family present. Something big that we'd always wanted and never been able to have before.

I'm totally excited because we decided on Disney annual passes, which we just bought this week. My husband has never been there so he's as giddy as a schoolgirl this week.

We're going to Orlando Sunday and planning on going to the park for the first time Sunday evening, spending a night in a motel and going back on Monday (sons birthday). Then we might drive back in on Wednesday (my birthday).

We're planning on packing a lunch and taking day trips 3 or 4 times a month throughout the year... we homeschool and I work from home/self employed so our schedule is really flexible and we can jump up and go any Tuesday or Wednesday morning on any given months so hopefully we'll hit some lower crowd time. We just plan on being laid back and experiencing it, one section of each park at a time. That's how I ended up here... just looking for tips from veterans.

Best part is that the kids don't even know we bought the passes, we're going to surprise them Sunday night. They think we're going to Orlando to visit the science center because we get in for free with our museum pass. They're always saying, whenever we watch a Disney movie or go into Orlando or pass a billboard, "(sigh) Someday I wish we can go to Disney... can we go to Disneyworld one day mom, just once?"

So they are going to be in complete shock. This is what my 3 kids are going to look like Sunday night: :yay::eek::worship:

I'm so excited about everything, from walking through the door to scrapbooking the memories.

Well, sorry for the lengthy introduction, but I'm a bit giddy myself. One week to wait till D-day.
