Thanks for the affirmation that I wasn't losing my mind. What with the pithy two word posts, butterflies, big pictures of ugly cats, etc., I had serious doubts there.
One thing kind of on-topic that was discussed....in our not-so-great trip with friends, we most definitely did NOT share a room! Togetherness only goes so far. No, the tension came from them wanting to go Disney/Universal Commando, and us not feeling the need. It ended up with them going their completely separate ways (except for a few times), and actually, that worked out okay. It just got kind of weird when we got back together at the end of the day...and on the drive home. Whatever...we're still friends, but NOT travelling companions.
Back to this trip, though. After nailing down the dates, it became my task to find a hotel for Friday through Tuesday. Like I said, I work for a hotel company (Hilton), so we have avenues for cheap rooms that civilians don't have. Problem is: the Disney property hotel rooms (Hilton, Doubletree Guest Suites) are next to impossible to book through our employee rate portal, as they are very popular and are gone a year in advance.
So I booked a new Homewood about a mile from DD, and also a Hampton that's very close (we could decide which one we would use later). All the while, though, I kept checking the availability of the Disney hotels.
One day, POOF!, it happened. Four nights opened up at the Doubletree Guest Suites across the street from DD (I guess someone must have cancelled). I booked it quick -- so now it's a Doubletree Guest Suites stay for $39 a night! I was excited. Partner -- not so much, but he does appreciate a good deal, so his eyes semi-lit up.
So we're transferring from friend's house to the DTGS on Friday, October 30, and doing a Disney park that day. I'm thinking Epcot. The main action of the day should be over at the MK, so perhaps Epcot won't be so crowded. Hopefully Illuminations will be that night, because I've been thwarted every time I've planned to see it.
Saturday, October 31: Halloween at....UNIVERSAL. Is that blasphemous? I gave R the option of Disney or Universal that day, and he chose the latter. Staying for the Horror Nights thing at night. It should be wild. I guess R has a penchant for being chased around by a chainsaw or something. It's fine with me, though.
Sunday, November 1: Probably the Magic Kingdom, on our own dime. I also want to buzz over to the Grand Floridian. I've never actually seen that property, can you believe that?
Monday, November 2: Utilize the gracious offer of a Park Hopper and...well, park hop!
Okay, now back to the regularly scheduled thread hijacking.
