Ive taken fantasia Sam's advice & posted this question on a new thread in the hope of some more advice :)

Im stuck on whether to choose the intimate or custom wedding, we have narrowed the guest list down to 20 but can invite a few more friends if we go custom.
The intimate package seems to suit our needs for just family & a few close friends. Although we can stretch our budget to a custom I fear we would never meet the room requirements. Most of our family are looking into renting 2 grand villas in 1 of the dvc.
All i really want is somewhere semi private to have a nice meal & a few dances. From what i have read on the boards Disney makes it very difficult for intimates. I dont mind spending up to the custom amount but is it possible to do a semi custom without an actual custom if u know what i mean lol.

Im having a custom so i cant give you that much advice on an intimate.
However back at the beginning of my planning i did consider an intimate.
The reason i decided against it was that it was important to me and my fiance to be able to have a few dances at our wedding. The only way we could do this was to have a custom. With an intimate you are pretty much limited to having a dinner in one of the restaurants for your "reception" if you are not so bothered by the dancing then there are some lovely places you can do this. MelMel had her's at the yachtsman steakhouse and they made personalized menus for her i believe.#

Also when it comes to the room nights, i was concerned at first but i think the DVC villas count towards the room nights - so if they are staying in 2 villas for 10 nights say that is 20 nights sorted already!

It really depends on what you want out of the wedding!

I had an idea that might work for you. If you are having your wedding during a peak time, you would be able to offer rooms at a discount that is not normally offered at that time period. Is there anything in your contract that would prevent you from offering the rooms to other friends, say those you met here on the DISboard? Is there anything that says everyone who occupies a room on your reservation has to physically attend the nuptials, or are they just interested in filling the rooms? I think you would be able to find people here (not necessarily this forum, but within the DISboard) who would be willing to book through your link for your days to fulfill your minimum requirements. I haven't ever seen the contract, so I don't know if there is anything that would prevent that, though I'm sure other brides here could tell you. ~Ev :)

I think this has been done before! in know someone else posted their link beofre but im not sure if it worked of if you can actually do it?

I'm interested to see what the answers to the sharing with my DIS friends on the room block issue. (LouisianaDisneyFan) I would love to have a discount and I would love to share one as well...

I've been asking myself the same question. Ours in a vow renewal. I love the perks of the custom only I'm afraid we wouldn't fill the room requirement. Neither set of parents would make the trip (I think). My parents wouldn't come on our trip this May for my DD's High School Graduation trip. (Go figure!) So it will just be us and several friends who have already committed to coming...(they love disney as much as I do). Can I hang out with you here and see what type of answers you get? :rolleyes1 Congratulations on your wedding!

Thank you Tinkerbellz & of course ur more than welcome here :)

Thanks to everyone that has replied im no longer worried about meeting my room requirements if we go custom, which is a huge relief!! If I cant fill the remainder nearer to the time then ill do as Ev suggested & post on the disboards.

I guess if I'm 100% honest i would prefer a custom wedding, not just for the dancing (although i admit that's a huge part, both H2B & I love to dance),but also for the other locations you can have ur ceremony in. We have fallen in love with a few but Italy is our favorite!!
Choosing a reception is proving to be a difficult choice though, everywhere we like (AAR & atlantic dance) only cater for much larger customs.

Does anyone have any suggestions where 25-30 guests can have a reception with dancing around the epcot/boardwalk area?

PS Laurafoster ive just noticed ur from herts. I grew up & lived there for 25 yrs, small world huh

I have done the Wish Book and even with the intimate package I have spent over $8,000. (Yes, I want Cinderella's Coach! :cool1: )That's just wedding stuff...that's not the Dessert party, or a reception or flowers for anyone else but me and hubby. I'm sure I could spend enough money to be custom.

We are with you on the Epcot locations too. I like the romantic atmosphere of France, but DH and I both Love the Italy Isola as well! It's just beautiful. Althought MK has a very special place in my heart, I think that EPCOT is our favorite park...what better place to share our love than in our favorite spot! :grouphug:

All of the (I was gonna say ladies, but I don't want to hurt groomtb's feelings--he gives great advice too) people here have such great input and support for all of us! It's definately like family.

With the intimate you are able to dance. You just do it at the cake cutting, and not at dinner. You have a violinist, or you can bring a cd player if you choose. We did our first dance to a cd, and to be honest we felt quite dumb, but we're not dancers. But if you are into it I'm sure you could enjoy it just the same. We did do Yachtsman for our dinner. We were set up in a private room, with specialized menus. It was very very nice. But it's starting to sound like your really going for the custom. So I will also say this DVC does count to your minimums. And when it comes down to it you should have what you truely want not what works easiest, or cheapest. If you aren't feeling an intimate you will regret it later. It was perfect for me, but I know it's not for everyone. Just remember when you say you're having a Disney wedding people come out of the woodwork to show up. So if you do go custom make sure you have a limit in mind that "Disney will only allow X number" or else you'll have 900 people there before you've finished saying you've decided to have a custom.

Good luck with your decission.

Melissa
