I work for a trading company and my boss is looking to hire a credit analyst. The person he likes is coming in tomorrow and he wants me to meet with her and ask her questions. I am only an administrative assistant and wouldn't even know what kinds of questions to ask her. He didn't specify what he wants me to talk to her about just said to make sure I have a list of questions prepared. I have never had to do this before and am kind of nervous (even though I am not the one interviewing-lol).

Anyone know if anything I could ask or talk about with her? My boss is away on business so I can't ask him for his opinion. Thanks for your help

I'm an admin assistant, too. I've worked in many jobs where the boss has had me meet with an interviewee informally. My part of the interview was mainly to see if I thought this was a person who could work in our department--with everyone, not just the bosses. Most interviewees will be on their best behavior with the boss but might treat an admin asst or someone they thought was unimportant poorly. It was my job to scope that out.

I handled it by taking them on a tour of the office/department--very casual chit-chat. People were much more likely to speak freely to me--not realizing that my input had as much weight as my boss's.

Your boss is probably trying to see if she's a good fit in your office. It sounds as if you're in a job where you'll work long hours together and if you don't hit it off, it'll make those days seem longer than they already are!

If you want, pose some scenarios for her and see how she'd handle them.
