Interval International Timeshare Exchange?

My inlaws own a timeshare at Tanglewood resort in Pottsboro Texas. I wanted to know about any experiences with Interval exchange into Orlando. They went to Disney last year and would like to trade into Orlando. We own at DVC. What are there chances of being able to exchange their week out for DVC? Is Disney property out of the question? Any thoughts I would appreciate we are so new to this. By the way they own 1 week in a 2 bedroom that is a "float".

Orlando is VERY easy to get into in the off-seasons. Not impossible in peak seasons. DVC comes up fairly often in the off-season and smaller units.

59 days before check-in all the trade power restrictions pretty much go out the window. Right now you could exchange into DVC in May. I saw it earlier. Think it was a 1br at Saratoga Springs and a studio at Key West. Not at all uncommon in the less popular months.

We always thought someone had to actual want your timeshare week for you to really exchange? Is this not the case? So the home resort of Pottsboro and Tanglewood is not a problem?

no.

if II agreed to exchange it - you can get something in Orlando.

besides you might not like that resort - but others do.

exchanging allows them to enjoy your resort - while you enjoy someone elses.

they need to join II.

then you can look and see what is available for your time.

if DVC is not and you don't want to wait for one. (no guaranteed about it being available at the 60 days time) then I would go with Marriott - they are all pretty nice and there are alot of them.

about 4 to 5% DVC will trade out. considering we are now over 100,000 members that is alot of trade outs.

I just checked intervalworld.com and four pages of open Orlando resorts come up, including Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort.

Very cool that the Disney resorts come up sometimes -- definitely would like to stay there at least once.

Are there extra charges other than the II exchange fee to use a Disney property ?

We have a timeshare and have traded twice for Disney. It was a great experince. Last year we got into Old Key West. This fall will be Saratoga Springs. The downside is there is usually not a lot of Disney on Interval so if you see something you need to jump on it. The charges are not much I think it comes to a little over $250.

In addition to your II exchange fee, DVC charges a $95 fee that you pay directly to them.

I joined II last night for my inlaws. There are a lot of properties in Orlando. Currently the listing at SSR is not there for the week of May 20th. I guess someone already snatched it up. Are there any suggestion for picking one of the other resorts? Which Marriott is best? Any advice or help appreciated.

I also have a few questions about II once a make a deposit of a week into the system. I start looking for resorts. If I pick one today and then later find somthing else can I switch to another Orlando resort? What are the rules on changing a reservation once you have picked a resort?

Once you make an exchange, your unit is no longer available for you to search for something else. You can call Interval & ask them to check what is available for you. If there is something you like you could do what is called a re-trade. You would have to pay another exchange fee.

Be aware that your in-laws unit is assigned a "trading power" by Interval. This means that it can only trade for resorts that are rated similarly to theirs. That limits what they can exchange into. So don't think that you could get anything you see listed in the directory. Tanglewood has a 5* rating which is good so you should be able to trade for the nicer resorts in Orlando like Marriott & DVC. There have been a lot of DVC showing up recently for September at Old Key West & Saratoga Springs. They get taken pretty quickly so you have to be up in the early morning & grab one right away. The Marriotts are usually available all year. Marriotts Cypress Harbour & Grand Vista are two that are quite popular with exchangers.

barndweller gives you good advice that you shouldn't necessarily expect to see availability for all the resorts in the II directory - people have to exchange their units in order for them to show up as available. And a number of factors go into whether YOUR resort exchange will pull certain other resorts.

I agree that Cypress Harbour and Grande Vista are two outstanding Orlando resorts. I understand that Marriott's Horizons resort (their newest in Orlando) is quite nice, too. I'd suggest that you not limit yourself to just these and DVCs though. For instance, Cypress Pointe and Vistana Villages are both very nice resorts, Vistana Resorts is nice too.

We exchanged earlier this year with II and traded for Westgate Towne Center. Nice resort - no complaints. Very close to Disney, very clean and roomy. Nicely maintained as well. No problems with timeshare sales people as we kept the phones off in the room the entire week.

We;re trying to trade brothers Marriott for OKW or SSR in Oct, and now availabliilty. Can you get on a waitlist, or do you have to call day by day.

you might wait until 60 days out - there are generally some DVC in May - I think it is high on the list for MS to exchange - Sept, Jan, May - I think it how the list goes.

but by then the Marriott could be gone. I agree with goldilocks_63 and Detailor.

Cypress Harbour is a very nice one.

Grande vista but only if you can get a rehab or new villa.

Royal Palms got a rehab and lately has gotten some nice reviews.

horizons, as mention, is also very nice.

We were on a waitlist for 9 months for DVC, but nothing ever came available for us. But we were going in July so I knew our chances were slim. I have seen DVC available at other times though.

We are staying at Marriot's Imperial Palms this summer. We needed a 3 bedroom that sleeps 10 so our options were limited. Imperial Palms guests can use the amenities at the World Marriot so that was a plus for us (even though there is supposed to be construction there this summer).

Can you get on a waitlist

The easiest way to get an exchange is to deposit your unit with Interval. Then you can place a request for exactly what you would be willing to accept in trade. To be successful you really need to be flexable. Either you pick a narrow range of time and several resorts or pick only a few resorts and a large time frame. The more choices you give, the more likely you will get an acceptable exchange. When a match shows up in the computer system you will automatically get it if you have adequate trading power and are next in line for that date & resort. You cannot, however, ask for a unit that is larger than what you have deposited.

You can continue to "shop" the open inventory while the request is in place. The best time to check for inventory that has not already been assigned to requests already is early morning (like 2am ) Sometimes you can find large units at very desirable resorts that you can then take online with your deposited unit.

Many of us have gotten great exchanges into DVC, Sheraton & Marriott by checking online.

There has actually been quite a lot of inventory showing up for July, August & September lately. Inventory for holidays is the hardest to trade into although there have been several Xmas & New Year weeks lately as well.

Disney plays a huge part in what goes into the Interval exchange pool & of course the slower times during the year are deposited more often. If you can only vacation during the most popular weeks & will only go to your favorite resort, you will have a hard time getting an exchange. You would be better off renting from an owner at DVC. If you are willing to go during non-peak times & will be happy at any of the DVC resorts & as long as what you are trading has sufficient trading power, you will always be able to get a trade.
