Weeks 16-50 (after Easter, before Xmas) are much easier to get for Cancun though mid summer is a little harder. Last I heard the Royals are HIGH season for midsummer. The Sands is great but is a large resort. IMO, the sands is better than the DVC resorts overall, esp where service is concerned.

Waiting for contract in mail, but guide said as soon as contract # is entered, I can start booking through Interval....

Might also consider Aruba..Have been there and loved it..

Knowing my luck, will hit bad weather next summer in Cancun..Aruba is more stable weatherwise, but farther flight...Could also use Dev.Points at one of 3 Disneyland hotels, but looking for a variation from Disney for next year...

Just returned from 4 nights at Beach Club Resort..Was fabulous! Got "magically" upgraded to concierge level from standard..A real bonus..Booked standard with a 25% pin code, then got concierge gratis!

Had a fabulous time, except for getting horrible gastro virus on 5th day..Got to see the AKV Kidani model at SSR, but never made it to AK Resort..

Thinking of purchasing AKV Kidani even though physically never saw it..
Have done alot of study on DVC in the last 3 weeks, so pretty much "sold"

IMO buying points with the idea of trading through II isn't a good choice. Better to buy less points and look at getting the "trades" other ways. $3000 worth of DVC points for a week you could rent for $1500 or less (2 BR) doesn't make sense, esp when you could use that $3000 and buy a timeshare you could just as easily (likely more easily) trade to the sands for for less and pay your maint fees for a couple of years to boot.

I am pretty much "sold" on the DVC Concept..I am only considering 200 points as a starting point anyway...If we like it in the future, can always add on...I'm sure not only my family, but my sons' and their "future" families and any "future" grandchildren will make good use of it...

I am interested though in using the Developer points for a non-Disney vacation in 2009...Have to be used within 1 yr from date of contract or you loose them..Just not interested in doing Disney again in the next yr....

I would suggest you break the contract into two parts 2x 100 points if they let you.

If not than 160pts and 40 pts

Than if you need to sell it will be easier and you can decide to keep a smaller contract that way and sell one.

If it's just a 1 time approach, that's more reasonable. One of the problems with next summer for an exchange is that a lot of those units have come and gone. Of course you could do a 1 time deposit to use for a future exchange with II and then search for next summer for the Royals Sands or any that interest you. If you know you won't use the points otherwise, the deposit first is likely the best option. In your situation I'd likely buy 160 points and then do a deposit of a HIGH season 1 BR (160 points). Of you could wait a few months and possible look for a resale that might be cheaper still or a different home resort if AKV isn't your favorite.

You can sell your points based on contracts, you can not buy a 200 pt contract and than decide to sell 25 pts at a time, you would only be able to sell the full contract for 200 points.

So when you tell your guide you want 200 points tell the guide you want them split into 2 contracts of 100 each because you want to be able to leave equal amounts to your children etc....at some point in the future.

If they say no it must be 160 + 40 than I would ask for verification from a manager
