After much discussion, my dad has decided he'd like to go to WDW for his 60th birthday. We'd need to trade our week through II for at least a 3 bedroom place to make it work for the 3 families that will be going. Seems easy enough, but the only week that will work for all of us is Thanksgiving week, and we're having a heck of a time finding anything open during that week. Any tricks to finding some openings that are II exchangable, besides just checking their website daily??
We're finding some 2 bedrooms for that week (off-site), but that isn't feasable w/the amount of people in our family.

I realize it's next to impossible to find a WDW exchange through II, probably IS impossible to find one for Thanksgiving week, just looking for some suggestions, even for off-site exchanges (:scared1: )
thanks for all your help

A 3 bedroom DVC would be impossible via II for a holiday week. The only time I ever saw a Grand Villa for exchange on II was for an OKW September week (and I couldn't believe I actually saw it - had to rub my eyes for a second and blink :rotfl: )

If you are using a 2 bedroom to trade, I'm sure you know that II will only allow you to formally request a two bedroom and not a three if you do an ongoing request. Here's an idea, you could put in an ongoing request for a 2 bedroom and then try to grab a cash Getaway in a studio. I know Marriott's Grande Vista has studios, 1 bedrooms, 2 bedrooms, and 3 bedrooms. But that would be a bit of a gamble hoping for a cash Getaway for a holiday week.

I booked a 3 bedroom today on a II Getaway at Sheraton Vistana Villages for a low season fall week. I really don't see that many 3 bedrooms at the better Orlando resorts, so I grabbed it quick - it was $600 with tax! :cloud9: We already had a studio booked at BWV on points and a 1 bedroom at OKW, but we have more family coming on the trip and when I saw that 3 bedroom for that price, it was the perfect add-on for our fall family trip.

DVC doesn't deposit 3 BR units unless there's nothing else they can deposit. Even 2 BR units are relatively unusual as are holiday weeks in general, esp Xmas and Easter. I'm assuming you're trading a 2 BR and thus you can't search for a 3 BR unit other than online. There are very few 3 BR units and a handful of 4 BR units in decent timeshares in the Disney area. For your situation you're only choice really is off property. Even then, holding out for a 3 BR unless that's what you're trading is very iffy at best.

Personally I'd take a 2 BR at a top resort and then try to get a second unit at the same resort. There are several ways to try to get a second unit in this situation for a reasonable price. If you'll tell us what resort and week they did deposit, I can likely give you a little more help. If they haven't yet deposited, even better unless their unit is coming up in the next 3-4 months or less.

Otherwise you'll have to decide what's most important. Is it getting something that will work well for a reasonable price, getting a 3 BR or staying on property. It's also possible you're parents have something that gives you other options. Do they belong to RCI in addition or have a system where they can reserve something directly like Hilton, Starwood, Bluegreen or Wyndham?

Great questions. I'll check back w/my dad and get back to you. I know getting a 3 BR is more important to us than staying on property, we don't want anyone to get divorced or killed during the trip. :rotfl:
thanks so much for your help

As I tried to convey, getting a 3 BR will be very difficult regardless. The best way to get what you want is to have an ongoing search, you can't do that for a 3 BR unless you're trading a 3 BR. That only leaves you to seeing it online and trading for it after all the weeks have been picked over. If they can trade to RCI, you can specify a 3 BR even if not trading a 3 BR, but not with II. You also give up so many opportunities to get great 2 BR units. Getting a second unit to go with the 2 BR is usually very easy for Orlando. The only Marriott's that have 3 BR units are Grande Vista which has lockoff units and thus is usually not deposited as a 3 BR and the Imperial Palms which has all 3 BR units. Thus if you search for that resort and get it, you'll be guaranteed a 3 BR. The other II resorts you could consider for 3 BR would be Liki Tiki, Westgates Lakes, Vistana Villages, Fairfield Star Island and Calypso Cay. Of the latter, only Vistana Villages would be somewhat comparable to DVC. Even the second Marriott is not on the A list.
