Has anyone ever used your points for an exchange with the Interval International resorts? How does the exchange process work and how do you find out the # of points needed for the resort that you want? And were you happy with the exchange? We are currently interested in finding out more about their resorts on Maui and how the trade would work. If anyone has any info on this topic, especially in regards to Maui and recommendations for resorts there, I would appreciate your input! Thanks!

We just booked with them to go to the Marriott Newport Beach Villas. Disney called and gave them the weeks we wanted and then they let us know the number of points. As it worked out we got it for less point because of the dates we chose. It only took a few weeks for them to book the reservation for us. I think it is because it is really new and not sold out yet. Disney handled it all. If we cancel then Interval hold a week for us there or at another place. I believe for a year. It cost us the $75 to make the reservation. Hope this has helped.

We did an exchange to Hawaii (haven't taken the trip yet), and got our exchange in just 5 days to the big island. We got a week in a 1 bedroom for 160 points, the cost of a 1 Bedroom for a week at OKW during that time period.

Merilyn, if you cancel, II does not hold a place for you. What they do is give you the right to search for another unit to be used within a year from the date of cancelation or 2 years from the week DVC deposited, whichever is less. This is an II change in policy over the last year or so. It also appears that the replacement week has less trade power but only II knows for sure.

The best comparision for the points cost is to assume it will either be Adventure or Dream Season at OKW for a week. Sometimes a little more (Magic season) and occasionally HH Adventure season. You essentially chose one or more of the resorts on the DVC exchange list, ever how many full week intervals you want and they put it in the computer. Max is a combination of 64 weeks (weeks X resorts). You can search for up to 2 years before the date of your travel. They will call you before confirming if you ask them to. Remember there are no guarantees. How likely you are to get what you want depends on how badly everyone else might want the same thing. Maui Christmas, Caribbean and MX Christmas to Easter, Ski weeks, etc will be difficcult but not impossible. Remember that just like DVC, other company owners have internal trade priority. Marriott holds all deposits for 24 days before they would release them. The reason Newport was available to a non Marriott owner is that Marriott gives them to II to get fresh meat in. Once it's sold out, it will not be likely to get Newport unless you own and search with a Marriott.

Maui - Marriott, Sands of Kahana and One Napili are the only ones I'd recommend personally from the DVC list. You might also consider using one of the independent exchange companies that will have access to additional quality resorts like the Whaler and Embassy. Good luck.

For the Royal Reef. It's been in for around a month and it's for next March 18. Do you think I'll get it considering I had to ask for a certain week? Can someone suggest other resorts at the Caymans- I want to go there and may just have to use real money!!! What a bummer! I'll have teenagers with us and we like really nice places (Disney quality). I'd consider hotels or condos. Any suggestions please?

Hi, this is my first post on these boards.
Anyway - I have the opposite question. I was given a gift of a week at an Interval International resort from my dear sister. Of course, being a Disney fanatic, I chose one of WDW's DVC resorts. My dates were very flexible. How hard is it to get one of these weeks?
Thanks.

Getting DVC, even a studio, with a week your sister didn't want and gave to you is unlikely. The only chance would be OKW Adventure and Dream season, rarely Magic and Choice. Also HH Adventure season. Don't hold your breath but it partly depends on what the week deposited was. I'd get one of the Marriott's in Orlando. Remember that DVC charges you $95 on top of the exchange fee of $109 for DVC.

As for Grand Cayman, I'd add the Grand Caymanian (also managed by the royals). I don't think it's on the DVC list though. In RCI, Morritts and Indies Suites are fairly highly rated. I've heard a lot about Morritts, know nothing about Indies. Plantation Village is also on the DVC list and worth considering. The truth is that your chances of getting the Royal Reef is very high, especially since it's in the sellign mode. Good luck.

I think the less specific you are, the easier it will be to get an exchange. We left the dates open and even the island open. I think the more specific you are the harder it is. I will bump my exchange thread up for yout to read, Mickeyluvscheese.
