Does anyone know the overall success rate for exchanges? I understand that there are variables but am curious about the success rate for all comers.

Try This Thread. The first post should give you historical information. Remember all they track is whether you got an exchange, any exchange. They do not track nor account for the number of exchange request withdrawn or settled for a lessor option than desired. They also don't track how far out those exchanges were secured. IMO, the true story is far different that protrayed in the end of year audits I've used to compile this data. Still, it varies by location, time of year and unit size desired. If you'll give us what you're looking for in terms of time of year, locations and unit size, we can give you a far better idea. Regardless, you need to plan as far out as possible, usually at least a full year out. You also need to have as many choices of weeks and resorts as possible.thanks. Dean?

Given all the units there are lockoff's, it depends greatly on the unit size you're looking for. My educated GUESS is you have about a 50-70% chance of getting a studio, 10-30% chance of a 1 BR and less than 3-5% for a 2 BR. The only question is whether the economy will improve your chances. Realize that II holds ALL Marriott deposits for 24 days during which time they are only available to other Marriott owners. Only the weeks that make it out of this internal exchange system will be available to you on exchange.Ok, Dean. How about the Marriott Ko Olina in Ohaho for any weekend in October, 2009. I put my search in in February, 2008.
Thanks.

The most likely times for your match are about 11-12 months out, 6 months out and 2 months out. You will not have the opportunity to check air prior to accepting any exchange that matches your request. If using FF miles, make your air reservations coming up and narrow your II search with a backup cash reservation. Good luck and let us know how it goes.We put in for a 1BR.
Thanks, Dean.
I agree that any exchange to those locations is tough, a 2 BR even harder. Given that May and June are lower times and you're looking early, you may have a decent chance of getting something. Aruba is the most likely to come up.Dean
I started my search in the first week of sept 2008 for May or June 2010. my resort choices are:
Harborside atlantis
Westin St. JOhn
Marriott Frenchmens
Marriott Marbell
Marriott Aruba surf club
Marriott St Kitts.
any thoughts. I know that Harborside and St Johns are a stretch. But you dont try, you dont get.

Not only that, from an exchange standpoint, you can only request a 2 BR sleep 6 if exchanging a 2 BR. But what you can do is request resorts that you know sleep 8. That's just one reason you needs to investigate the resorts they are looking at for exchange. Also I found that not all resorts have 2 bedrooms that sleep 8. Most only sleep 6. Marriott seems to have the 2 bedroom that sleep 8.
Tough choice. IMO, if you can get a 2 BR at BCV, BWV or VWL or even AKL; I think it is a comparable value. I'd book on points while waiting on the II search. Your chance of success is directly related to when you want to travel. For school holidays you have a very low chance of success but some better for summer. Regardless, getting any of these resorts for a 2 BR is tough.Straying from the original question somewhat, but hoping I can get Dean's advice - we own 1-week 3BR at Marriott's Frenchman's Cove, and want to exchange it through II in 2010. Hawaii is too far for us - after looking at the II options I was thinking that a 2BR at Beach Club would be a good exchange value and then I could bank my BCV points that year. Do you think I could get that exchange and do you think that is a good use of the 3BR Marriott?
Thanks so much,
You can offer it to II as a request first while also offering to rent it. If you rent it, you cancel the exchange request. If you get the exchange, you cancel the rental. You do give up a possible bonus week but retain control. Thanks Dean - I was thinking of a 2br BCV in August so perhaps that may work. Otherwise I may just try to rent the 3br Marriott week; I have zero experience renting anything out but there's always a first time.
Appreciate your advice,
