put in for an interval exchange in hawaii
one week in july does anyone think i have a remote chance
of getting a phone call from disney or should i book other
accomodations

Your chances are slim but in part it depends on how late you can wait to find out, what resorts you listed and what unit size you need. If you listed only the Embassy's, Westin and Marriott's for a 2 BR; don't start packing. If you can wait until under the 60 day window with a broader acceptability of resorts and smaller units, you may have a chance. You can always book a refundable hotel or condo as a back up plan. I hope you're looking for 2007 rather than this year.

July 2007 or July 2006?

Which resorts?

1BR, 2BR, or studio?

For July 2007, the deposits from II members will typically start a year out for most resorts. So you shouldn't expect to hear anything until July 2006 at the earliest.

For July 2006, it will take a lot of luck. Other II members had their requests in a year ago.

Some resorts are very difficult to get, such as the Westin on Maui or any of the four Marriotts. People who own at other resorts in those chains get a priority — and yet it's even a difficult trade for them. Most other Hawaiian resorts are not as difficult, but some aren't as nice either.

2BR units are tough because so many of the properties have 2BR lock-offs. Owners tend to split their 2BR unit into a 1BR deposit and a studio, and they deposit both with II to get two trades (or sometimes three trades if II gives a bonus week for the 1BR).

DVC members can trade successfully into Hawaii. It takes advance planning, flexibility, and some luck.

thanks everyone for your advise when talking to disney only
offered ko olina beach club on oahu
guess i will start looking for other accomodations so i have some place to stay in july thanks again

You could also ask for the Kona Coast on the Big Island. It's still a long shot, but it's a decent resort (not on the beach) and somewhat easier to land. If you do, be aware that the Big Island has a different character: more rocky, wild and volcanic and less like Trader Vic's in the sun. The advice given above to book alternate, cancellable accomodations is absolutely correct.

There is a member here who owns a condo at that development, maybe she will contact you about a direct exchange.
