Dear DISsers,

Is a secure internet connection or wireless network available at Disney resorts? If so, what are the rates like?

Thanks,
jmcalister

Both types should be available at all of the Disney resorts. There is a $9.95 charge per 24 hours for guests staying on cash. It was just announced that DVC members staying at a DVC resort on points would get free internet.:cool1:

The $9.95 fee for in-room hi-speed internet is separate from the $9.95 wi-fi available in many public areas. If you connect in your room you will pay $9.95 for 24 hours. If you then go out to the lobby or pool of your resort and connect wireless, that will be another $9.95 for 24 hours.

Rather than pay 9.95 twice, just connect wirelessly the entire time for the 9.95. The way I see it, you only need to pay it once. If you can connect wirelessly, do it that way. If you can't then there is nothing else to worry about anyway.
:surfweb:

Wireless is not available in the room. If you care to sit in the lobby to check your email then paying once is ok.

I am giving 2 of my DD the I Touch.... each for Christmas If they want want to use the Wifi do I have to pay $9.95 for each of them?

. . . Is a secure internet connection or wireless network available at Disney resorts? . . .

1) No.
2) There are two connections to get to the internet
. . . connection from your laptop to the local network
. . . connection from the local network to the internet
3) Network Connection
. . . once connected, wireless is not secure to the network
. . . once connected, wired is secure only to the network
4) Internet Connection
. . . once connected to the internet, wireless is not secure for the internet
. . . once connected to the internet, wired is not secure for the internet
. . . both depend upon your own software security

NOTE: At home or work, your network can be secured so people cannot access your computer (at least not very easily). Your connections to the internet can be then secured through a network or router firewall or other security. At WDW, you do not configure your computer like at home/work, so security is weak. It might sound strange, but even the Front Desk computers are subject to attacks from internet sources (when they access the internet and work around the WDW intranet).
