As I've had such wonderful help with my PC questions in the past  I thought I'd try one more!! This time for my DH who's actually very techie-minded but has come across a problem he can't seem to unravel. When he wants to use Internet Explorer he has to switch off the Norton anti-virus thingy as it won't let him use IE. Any ideas please from you wonderful techies out there??? :sunny:

It sounds like Norton has blocked IE from the Internet. Anti virus software usually have a list of "allowed" programmes and anything not in it is blocked from accessing the net. I would imagine you'd need to go into it and put IE into the "allowed" list but I don't have Norton so I wouldn't have a clue how to do it!!

That didn't work I'm afraid as only the anti-spam part has an allowed list not the rest of it. Any other suggestions would be gratefully received :sunny:

Sorry I can't help you I'm afraid, but I just wanted to say that I really don't like Norton. It blocks things unnecessarily and it's hard to fix.

My brother who is much more of a techie than me is going to put McAffee anti-virus on my new laptop which seems to override Norton.

On the old computer we tried to delete Norton before we put in McAffee. It caused chaos in the PC.

Hope it all gets fixed up :)

Thank you Miss Mickey Mania. I must agree that Norton seems very heavy handed and constantly sorts emails from my allowed list into the spam folder but I feel secure having it and also we've paid for it now ;) . Is Macaffee a better program then?

Well I didn't pay for it. I bought my new laptop 3 weeks ago and Norton was already installed! I don't like being dictated to about what programs I should use.

My brother said that McAffee is definitely more efficient. My dad uses it too and he's an information systems manager - pretty advanced stuff.

I know paying for yet another thing is annoying though when you've already bought Norton. I hope someone will be able to give you more help.

Diana,
I use Mcafee mainly because I use AOL Broadband and you get a free firewall from Mcaffee with it. So when my Norton Antivirus expired I bought the Mcaffee for compatability. I don't know if its any better but it works well ,catches all the bugs and automatically updates when you connect to the internet. manke sure you delete norton first though if you change . :badpc:
can't help with fake tan but DW is like you Whit and she doesn't go brown but turns pink like a lobster. so we just use total sun block. Th eone a day type .

Thanks a lot Berwyn. I'll wait until our Norton runs out and then change - only bought it last month though!!!
I use P20 (I think it's called!!) sun oil as I'm too lazy to put it on more than once a day!! Decided I can't be bothered covering my vast expanse with fake tan either!!! May treat myself to a salon fake tan depending on how expensive it is and how long it'll last!!! :sunny:

That's a shame about the Norton 11 months to go!
About Internet Explorer, I don't use it anymore I use either the AOl version of IE or Mozilla Firefox Browser , it's a free dowload from www.Mozilla.org .
It's not much different to IE but I don't get the problems I had with IE either.
