Internet pricing issue?

I don't trust the internet/microsoft products because of the security holes that each has in them. Due to this, I shop the internet and make all financial arrangements over the phone.

I checked my stay in a preferred site for April, 25 departing May, 1 of this year on the internet and got a price of 448.32 for the site. When I called the reservations number at Disney, they quoted me a price of 461.58

This is a very small difference, but i printed the quote from the website and told the person taking the reservation about the difference on my quote. He said that he looked it up and that I was wrong! Quite frankly, he made me feel like a liar.

If it weren't for my kids, we'd be going somewhere else. It's not the 13.26 difference that got me, it was the "you're wrong" attitude that I was presented with.

Anybody else get this?

Wes

I've found that the internet quotes from Disney are always a little lower than the quotes I get from a CM. (Unless of course you use a special code when you talk to them).

Also, this is JMO, but I think it's just as safe to make my reservation over the internet as it is to give my credit card number to a real person. The chances that somebody will break through a security hole on the internet are less than somebody taking my card number that I purposely give them and using it or giving it to someone else. Either way, my card number will go through a couple of hands (or more) before the charge is made.

Also, my cards all have a $50 responsibility limit on them. So if anybody did get my card number, I'm only responsible for up to the first $50 they would spend.

Oh well - it's all in how comfortable different people feel about different things. Not a big deal. My mom & dad are the same way - they don't trust the internet for anything financial.

Hey! This might make a good Debate thread! I think I'll go over and post it on the Debate board! ::yes::

And, don't worry about the attitude they gave you. Maybe they were just having a bad day or something. It wouldn't hurt to try calling again, just to see if you get a different person that might give you the internet price! :wave2:

Ok - I just started a new thread over on the Debate board about making reservations on the internet vs. the phone. Go HERE to join in!

Thanks logical for the idea!

Thats weird with two different prices I called got a price for my trip than I check the price online and got the same. I would call again and see what another CM says;)

The difference may also depend on who you talk to when you call. When calling 1-407-W-DISNEY two groups answer the phones

CRO = Central Reservations

WDW Travel = WDW Full Service Travel Agency

In the "olden days" the only group that existed was CRO and all they did was book rooms/sites. As the need for a full service travel agency arose for things like packages, airfare, cruises and the like WDW Travel was created. WW Travel books complete packages including air, cruises, tickets and other stuff. Trip cancellation insurance has been a big moneymaker for travel agencies for years, especially in the cruise industry. Recently, folks have been complaining that insurance has been added to their WDW reservations.

Now, we do have to remember to compare apples to apples. Most times when WDW Travel quotes an all inclusive price (i.e. trip insurance has been added) they have already added taxes also. Taxes at WDW are a big part of the "add on" price.

When I called to book my last trip I was quoted $186.70. I asked if that included taxes, the reply NO. Knowing full well that I was in Value Season ($40 a night) I knew right away I was talking to WDW Travel.

When I questioned the price and who I was talking with the CM state that she was with WDW Travel and it included trip insurance. I asked to be transferred to CRO. CRO then booked the same 4 days for $178.40 + tax.

So the insurance on my 4 night stay was going to be $8.30 As the insurance is sold a a percentage of the total cost, the insurance fee can add up quickly on a cabin with tickets and other stuff included.
