Internet hookups at WDW

How do you get online while you are at WDW?

We have a Verizon DSL connection at home and we always take the laptop with us, but I don't know what to do to access the Internet while we are there.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

do you have a laptop with a built in modem?

if so, you just need a phone cord to plug into your computer and the wall data port in your hotel (actually at the BC i'm thinking maybe it might have been an extra port on the phone, but i don't remember). then get one of those free 1000 hour cd's from aol (they seem to come in the mail here like every month, LOL) and install it on your computer and you are set.

the speeds aren't that fast, but it'll do ya.

everytime we get one of these we toss it because we don't need it. Besides, isnt' there a catch to those free 1000 hours? I don't know if my DH would want to do this.

Is there any other way? Not that your way isn't good, I'm just searching for as many answers as I can get

there's no catch at all. dh and i have used them several times and we don't have aol at home.

but if you don't want to do that, there used to be some free isp's out there. i'm not sure how many of them would have local numbers at wdw but that would be worth investigating.

Thanks caitycaity. I'll have to show this to DH and see what he thinks....AND the next time I get one of thos AOL CDs I won't be so quick to toss it.

We do exactly what caitycaity does. Then we cancel the aol when we get home.

honestly, i'm not sure if dh just signed up with fake info or if canceled it b/c he always handles that aspect of it, but if it was too much of a hassle, my dh wouldn't do it. LOL

i would assume that you could just make a phone call, maybe suite disney knows.

If you have an ISP that is nationwide, you can probably call one of their local numbers while you're in WDW, and use your same old account (if you have a dial-up account, not cable or DSL).

If you use a local ISP, you can buy one of the cheap phone cards (you know, 2.5-cents/minute or so), and use that to dial up to your ISP's phone number... you might be charged 75 cents for the phone call, but other than that, it's a cheap way to call your own account, and no hassles with signing up for a new service and canceling it. Works like a charm.

Most high speed internet providers have available 'dailup' lines that you can use. For example, with our Roadrunner, we can use the dialup for like 10 hours a week for free - I'm thinking that should be plenty for checking email and such from WDW.

Then you won't have to install that AOL virus on your machine.

After a brief search, I found Verizon offers something called Remote Dialup Internet Access. While it's not free($8.95), I'd prefer that over installed AOL any day, it's worth the cost IMHO.
