Hi -

We are leaving for Disney in a week. My husband just found out he needs to bring his work laptop with him  We are staying at Pop Century. I know they have internet connection but was wondering if they have any hot spots. His work place will pay for the connection for the week regardless.

And, he needs to lock it up (work policy) when we're gone. Obviously, the room safe is too small. Is there other safes that can be used on property?

Thanks - KIM :surfweb:

Since this is a work-related requirement, perhaps you could call Pop Century and find out if they have safety deposit boxes large enough to hold the laptop. (Used to be that hotels provided different sizes of safety deposit boxes to guests--not sure if this is still done). Alternately, you could enquire about the facilities available in the nearest onsite (may not be at Pop Century) Business Center.

Wi-Fi hotspots are typically limited to the convention/business-oriented resort locations, and are subject to a separate per-day charge from the wired internet service. There were a free hotspots available at one point - the cafe at WWoS I believe, and the lobby of BC did at least for a time.

Does the laptop have to be physically locked up or just secured? Our policy is that no corporate laptop leaves our room without full disk encryption on it. Provided the person doesn't have the key taped to the laptop there is no way even a stolen laptop will compromise any information if it is properly encrypted. TrueCrypt is free and if you use a good key and AES encryption even the NSA isn't getting to the data.

They may also consider using a laptop lock and cable as sufficient along with the encryption. It wouldn't hurt to ask.

If his company is paying for wifi, you might want to check into getting one of those 3G mobile mifi cards. It might be less expensive and you can use it for another trip.

I agree with the others. The company I used to work for required us to use a cable lock on the laptop.Easy insurance for the laptop and it only costs $20-30.

Regarding POP: There are no hotspots (that we found) and you are correct in thinking the safes are not large enough to accommodate a laptop (at least not at values). The only option (as someone may have already suggested) is to pay for the ethernet connection at $9.95 for 24 hour period.

For a wifi hotspot - I'm posting this from my iPhone from Earl of Sandwich in DTD right now ;)

:goodvibes

Would it be enough to be locked in a suitcase?
We put those TSA locks on our suitcases when we travel and when we leave for the Parks or whatever in the mornings... we put everything valuable in one of our suitcases and lock it.

When I stayed at Pop in 2005, I was able to put my laptop in the wall safe.
I had a standard 13inch. This was not a wide screen laptop- but even that would probably fit.
Have they changed them since 2005?

We fit our widescreen MacBook in the safe at Pop no problem. If your company pays for the Internet you could always bring your own wifi box and set up a network in the room. We do that so we can both use our computers. (I'm sure I'll get some comment about how I'm stealing the Internet) ;)
