internet check-in

So since we did online checkin for AKL yesterday, for tomorrow, we can go straight to a park until we get a call/text from them saying the room is ready? :confused3
Sorry if I sound dense. I don't "do" change well. :scared:

If you wish, you can go to a park, wait for the text, then pick-up your packet at the resort, knowing your room is ready. If you want your park tickets added to your room key or want onsite charging to your room, though, you'll need to stop at the resort first and get the key cards.

I always forget about it and didn't see a real value, but it sounds like it would be nice to just get the text and not go the resort until the room was ready. is there a place to put comments or requests in the on-line check in? Do you do it at dvcmember.com?

Awesome. We don't need tickets added to the room key and we don't charge to our room. :thumbsup2 Thank you!

We are booked for June, first visit to BWV. Have a BW view studio, super excited. That said I made no location requests and have been thinking about online check in. Is there a way to add a request, such as high floor to the online check in process or is that something that can only be done with MS?? After reading this, leaning more towards trying the online check in!

There is a place for requests but it's not enabled for DVC stays. Only CRO guests have access to the requests options. All DVC requests need to go thru MS and be noted on your reservation.

Well...I just tried to do the online check-in (twice actually on two different browsers) and keep getting this error message :

We were unable to update your shipping address and travel party names. Please try again or call (407) W-DISNEY or (407) 934-7639. If you are under 18 years of age, you must have your parent or guardian's permission to dial this number.

Ha ha
Never mind.....it went through because I just got the email confirmation a second ago. Not sure why I got the error message on the final screen then ? Oh well........

I've never used this and I was wondering if it's a good idea.

I have two sons who will be going on our points - one in May / one in June - should I suggest that they use this.

Do I have to do it for them or can they take care of it.

We rented 4 rooms ( 3 studios, 1 2bdrm ) on our past trip and checked them all in online before going. Advantage was that most of our papers were all done already when we got there ( they just had to write our keys ). This does not mean however that if you are there early, that your room will be ready. 2 rooms were, 2 rooms were not. But at least we were able to just show up, get our keys, and go to our rooms.

We are drving.

My main objective with online checkin is tha ability to enter my cell phone number to receive a text that my room is ready.

This way, they day we check-in, we can do our errands (grocery shop, etc) without having to first check by the resort and ask is our room ready. We can take care of business and we will be remotely advised when it is ready. Then we will casually make our way back to the resort to pick up our packet and key.....without having to hang around for it.

I do not know what my problem is, but I just cannot do anything else until I have made it to my room and settled in first.

Just an FYI. We stayed at AKV last week. As I had asked about here on this thread, I did the online checkin, which included leaving a phone number "while on vacation", went straight from the airport to EPCOT at 10:30 AM, expecting to receive a text (or call :confused3) saying our room was ready. At 3:00 PM, still nothing, so I called AKL, and went through 3 people (I don't even remember why, really...I wasn't asking to speak to someone else...just every time I asked a question, I got passed off to someone else), all telling me that's not how it's done. Even if you checkin online, you need to go to the resort to let them know you've arrived before you'll receive any communication from them that your room is ready. At least that's what I was told (by 3 people, who seemed surprised that I could possibly think otherwise). The online checkin only helps in that it speeds up the process of getting checkin folder/keys once you're actually there.

There were a couple of quirky things about AKV...I'll leave that for another post if I get to it...but the savanna view and balcony were wonderful. I have never, in all our trips over the last 13 years, spent that much time actually relaxing on the balcony, and I mean really relaxing. :thumbsup2 It's a very calming environment.

Odd, since in December I received an automated voice call on my car phone, giving me my room number, while I was sitting waiting in line at a toll booth on the FL turnpike, and was about 20 minutes from even coming close to arriving on Disney property.

Well, it isn't really that odd when you think about how differently different resorts can do things and how differently different cms can do things and differently things can be done from one day to another.

I agree that it is a benefit to WDW - less work & less opportunity for errors at the Front Desk. That said, it's been a benefit to me, too.

We used online check in for our trip that began yesterday. It took all of 94 seconds (I timed it, LOL) to get our stuff. There was no line at the BWV special online check in station. (Last time we used it at the BWV, there was no special station. It did take a little longer that time since we had to wait a bit. It went very fast for our last trip at the BLT, though).

I also really like that I can enter my credit card for room charges with online check in - that way none of the front desk employees have to see it or key it. Any errors are mine! I admit that I'm a bit paranoid about identity theft, though.

I checked in online in Feb for OKW. When I got there, they had to swipe my credit card anyway and I didn't understand why. The CM said they had to do it :confused3

I would go straight to the hotel and see if the room is ready...I wouldn't count on a call/text...but that's just me.

Well, that's not how it worked for me. :confused3 And I'm guessing it's for the following reason...

Well, I counted on it because my minimal "research" showed me that I could count on it and didn't have to go to the room first. In the future, based on my experience, now that I have an experience to base it on, I will take some other action...call the resort from home to confirm their policy, or contact DVC, or something; or if just going to the resort first didn't interfere with some sort of plans that we hoped to accomplish, then yes, maybe I'd just do that. But it sure seems like Chuck's experience should be the norm. I just wanted to post my experience so that if it's really important to people's plans, they know they might have to pursue more details about their resort's policies.

I'm glad you did post your experience, MaryAnn, that's what these boards are for.
Like I said before, I checked in online, but I STILL had to give them my credit card AND my room was ready BUT I never received a call/or text saying so. You are absolutely right in saying that Chuck's experience should be the norm.
