I remember reading a while back about high speed internet in the rooms and wi-fi areas around pool/lobby but I fuzzy on the details.

Just ordered new laptop with "Internal TrueMobile 1400 Dual Band Mini-PCI card (Wi-Fi Certified)". I'm not even sure what this means, I just told CSR that I wanted it to work with our wireless network at home. Is this what I would need to use in a wi-fi area and, if so, how do you access it? Also, where can I find what areas are wi-fi at WDW?

Thanks,

Margaret

Someone much more technical than I am will probably respond better, but we were just there in December and there was a corporate type using her laptop downstairs at the CM desk (to the right side of check-in). Someone stopped her and asked if she was checking emails and she said she hadn't been able to get it to work in her room, but that she was able to get access while standing down at that desk in the lobby. Hope that helps...

I would love to know this as well as I am bringing my laptop. I do have an ethernet port but I have a wireless card as well that would be very convenient!

Tracy,

Since your heading down in a couple of days (lucky you, you get some nice weather this weekend) and bringing your laptop, can you post from BW and let us know what you find out, assuming you can.

I'm somewhat technically challenged but I think you can plug in your laptop in your room and get high-speed access or go wireless in the lobbies or pool areas, etc. I'm not sure if there is a charge for high-speed in the room but there is a charge for wireless. I wonder how you go about "buying" wireless time??

Thanks in advance.

I guess I should have "googled" before asking my question. I found this on Mousesavers. My son will be at BWV so it looks like he'll be set up for high-speed, but I'm staying at OKW so it looks like dial-up for me! Hope I have a free-trial AOL disk around! Does OKW charge the 75-cent fee for phone call?

Internet Access

Dial-Up Access with a Laptop

All of Disney's resorts have data ports on the phones. If you want to access the Internet from your hotel room using the data port, you'll need a dial-up account. Remember that they'll charge you .75 each time you connect, even to a local or toll-free number.

Off-site, you'll find that pretty much any decent hotel in the area will have data ports on the phones. If you want to access the Internet from your hotel room, you'll need a dial-up account. Hotels vary widely on how much (if anything) is charged for local and toll-free calls, so be sure to check before using dial-up access.

High-Speed Access with a Laptop

As of October 1, 2003, Disney's Coronado Springs Resort began offering high-speed Internet access in its guest rooms, at a charge of $4.95 per hour or $9.95 per 24 hour period. Within the next six months or so, all of Disney's convention hotels and Home-Away-From-Home/Disney Vacation Club resorts are scheduled to get high-speed Internet. The projected dates (subject to change) are:

Yacht & Beach Club - November 4, 2003
Contemporary Resort - December 2, 2003
Grand Floridian - December 2, 2003
Boardwalk Inn and Villas - December 30, 2003
Saratoga Springs Resort - January 30, 2004
Villas at Wilderness Lodge - February 27, 2004
Old Key West - April 2, 2004
Disney now offers Wi-Fi (high speed wireless Internet access) in the public areas of its convention hotels. You will need a Wi-Fi enabled laptop computer or PDA to access the Internet from designated areas of each resort. Smart City is the provider and bills the guest using a secure credit card transaction via an on-screen Internet connection. Requires a wireless interface card (WIC), available for purchase in the resort's business center. $4.99 per hour or $9.95 for a 24-hour period.

Locations for Disney's Wi-Fi access:

Grand Floridian - Main Lobby, Convention Center Hallway, Beach Pool
Contemporary - Main Lobby, Convention Center Hallway, Feature Pool
Yacht & Beach Club - Main Lobbies, Convention Center Hallway, Stormalong Bay Pool
Coronado Springs - Main Lobby, Convention Center Hallway, Feature Pool, Francisco's

Margaret,

I will still post if I can! We are going to Vero first. I am doubting they have it there, but I will still be checking the 'ole email.

Thanks for the info! It is much appreciated!

Happy New Year!

Tracy

BTW, if you can't find an AOL disk at home (for the free trial), you can get one free at Office Depot. Conversely, I have about 100 Earthlink and AOL CD's... They come about one a week (lol)! I am happy to send you one!

A WIC?

I have set up a wireless network at home. I have a netgear 11g card in my dw's laptop (typin on it right now). We will be able to access the BCs wi-fi with our current configuration, or will we need to purchase / rent something there.. We plan on bringing the laptop for DVDs on the drive down and to store all of our digital pictures.
