internet access & skype for cruises

hey all,

we are cruising on the fantasy in nov, and will be at the DLH in dec.

we are wanting to use the internet while on vacation and one of the biggest things we want to do is skype...

i heard what i hope is a nasty rumour that DCL and DLH have blocked skype from being used with their internet...

for those that have cruised disney or stayed recently at DLH -- do you know if this is true? the disneycruise.com and disneyland.com websites are typically vague about it....

and if so... am i wondering whether we would be better off buying an internet stick and using that so we can keep in touch with our family..???

I have never used the internet service onboard Disney but I believe that it is very expensive, slow, very expensive and slow. Someone I met onboard composed an email while connected to the net and it cost her $100. Best to compose email before connecting and then just send it. Don't the anything concerning skype.

When in port we found free internet access and used it then as did alot of others.

I have never used internet onboard any cruises because it is sooooo expensive!! So, best to find an internet cafe in port

Echoing what the others said slow and expensive, even for a text only email. Skype would be out of the question. You will find places like Starbucks in ports with free wi fi and internet cafes are pretty plentiful too from what I've heard. I have no idea about DLH.

There was no service at sea except for the Disney cruise provided one . I think we paid $110 for 100 minutes or something dreadful like that.It was painfully slow but fine for emails aetc which I needed for work. There was generally free wi fi in port. We did not use Skype so I can't help with that.

well, i think we might be going incommunicado while we're at sea if the internet is that horrible... maybe we'll just compose a few emails and then just connect & send. i'm a little upset that disney is that bad for the internet service
